North Greenbush Police Arrest Albany Man in Connection to String of Retail Thefts

NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. — Police have arrested an Albany man in connection with a months-long string of retail thefts that targeted businesses across Van Rensselaer Square.

On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, officers with the North Greenbush Police Department took 40-year-old Kleotis King into custody on multiple outstanding warrants related to ongoing theft investigations that date back to June.

Between June and October, officers responded to several reports of merchandise thefts from local stores. Investigators noted a consistent pattern in nine separate cases, all involving a suspect with a similar description and method of operation. The total value of stolen items was estimated at $2,525.42.

Through collaboration with the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center and multiple law enforcement partners, detectives identified King as the suspect. Further investigation revealed King had more than 30 active arrest warrants throughout the Capital District, most tied to prior theft-related crimes.

King now faces the following charges:
• Burglary in the Third Degree (Felony)
• Petit Larceny (9 counts, Misdemeanor)
• Conspiracy in the Sixth Degree (Misdemeanor)

He was arraigned in North Greenbush Town Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail without bail as a predicate felon.

Chief David M. Keevern commended the coordinated investigative work that led to the arrest.

“Our town has not been immune to the increase in commercial thefts being seen nationally over the last few years,” Keevern said. “We are thankful for the efforts of the Capital Region Crime Analysis Center, which helped connect multiple agencies and share critical information that ultimately led to this arrest.”

Keevern added that ongoing retail theft affects both businesses and consumers.

“Persistent retail theft doesn’t just affect large companies,” he said. “It impacts prices, operations, and safety for everyone in our community. Our officers do an outstanding job each day, and we remain committed to protecting our local businesses and holding individuals accountable for repeated criminal behavior.”

King is scheduled to reappear in North Greenbush Town Court later this month, and additional charges may be filed as further investigations continue.

Camper Fire On Morner Road In North Greenbush

On October 5, 2025, at 9:30 AM, the Defreestville Fire Department, Wynantskill Fire Department, & North Greenbush Ambulance was dispatched to 169 Morner Road for a reported camper on fire. Defreestville car three arrived on scene and established command and notified the dispatcher that he had a camper on fire with smoke pushing from it and a barn in close proximity and as a precaution requested a structural box alarm to be transmitted bringing the Clinton Heights Fire Department to the scene with their rapid intervention team. The chief on scene conducted a full size up of the situation and did not open up the camper to provide any oxygen to the fire.

Engine 9-7 arrived on scene and deployed an inch and three-quarter hand line to the side door of the camper and firefighters opened up the door and began to knock down the fire condition inside of the camper before it could get out of hand. Within a short period of time, engine 9–6 arrived on scene behind the first due engine along with mutual aid from the Wynantskill Fire Department, and Clinton Heights Fire Department. The driver from the first due engine company established a water supply with engine 9–6. Firefighters continued to conduct suppression efforts for a short period of time.

Firefighters were able to bring the incident under control less than 15 minutes. Due to the first due fire chief recognizing the smoke conditions on scene and not opening the door of the camper this prevented the fire from expanding past the interior portion of the camper. No injuries were reported. Firefighters remained on scene for an extended period of time conducting overhaul while fire investigators worked to determine the cause of the fire. Firefighters went back into service on scene about one hour after the start time of the incident. This is the second camper fire firefighters in the district have faced in the last month

TROY POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN CONNECTION WITH TWO ARMED ROBBERIES

Troy, NY — October 25, 2025

The Troy Police Department has arrested a man in connection with two recent armed robberies, bringing a swift resolution to a pair of incidents that had unsettled local business owners across the city.

The first robbery occurred on Sunday, September 28, 2025, when Troy Police patrol units responded to LB Empire and Deli in Lansingburgh for a report of an armed robbery. Investigators say a suspect entered the store, brandished what appeared to be a handgun, and demanded money from the clerk before fleeing the scene. A second robbery was reported on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at LeBeau’s Grocery in South Troy. In that case, an individual allegedly pointed what also appeared to be a handgun at the clerk and demanded both cash and ci******es before escaping.

Detectives from the Troy Police Department took over the investigations and quickly identified a connection between the two incidents. Utilizing surveillance video, forensic evidence, and other investigative tools, detectives developed a suspect and secured search warrants. On October 22, 2025, investigators executed a search warrant on the suspect’s vehicle and residence in Troy, recovering evidence linking him to both robberies. Following questioning, the suspect admitted to the crimes and was taken into custody. The alleged firearm used in both incidents was later determined to be an imitation handgun.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Xavier Baker of Troy, was charged with two counts of Robbery in the Second Degree and two counts of Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree. Baker was arraigned in Troy City Court on October 22, 2025, and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail on bail.

Police officials praised the work of detectives and thanked community members for their vigilance. “The safety of our local businesses and residents remains a top priority,” the department said in a statement. “This successful arrest highlights the importance of quick reporting and collaboration between law enforcement and the public.”

The Troy Police Department urges residents to report any suspicious activity immediately to help maintain a safe and thriving community. Anyone with additional information regarding these incidents is encouraged to contact the Troy Police tip line at (518) 270-4777 or submit a confidential tip online at troypd.org.

WATERVLIET POLICE CHARGE WOMAN AFTER DOG FOUND ABANDONED ON BROADWAY

Watervliet, NY — October 25, 2025

During the evening hours of October 24th, 2025, officers from the Watervliet Police Department responded to the area of 1901 Broadway following a report of an abandoned dog. Upon arrival, officers discovered a young, well-mannered pit bull that had been tightly tied to a pole without food or water, seemingly left behind and forgotten.

Investigators determined that the dog had been cruelly abandoned for nearly two hours before being found. Through a diligent investigation, police identified and charged the owner, Tiffany C. Valentine Day, 33, of Troy, with Abandonment of Animals, a misdemeanor offense.

Valentine Day was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The dog was evaluated by veterinary staff and is reported to be doing well. Officials say the animal will soon be looking for a permanent, loving home where it can receive the care and compassion it deserves.

The Watervliet Police Department commended the community for quickly reporting the incident, which helped ensure the dog’s safety and well-being.

Troy Police Arrest Suspect in Deadly Altercation on Campbell Avenue
October 23, 2025 – Troy, NY

Troy Police Detectives have arrested a city man in connection with a fatal altercation that occurred Tuesday morning, leaving one man dead following an incident that began at a storage facility on Campbell Avenue.

According to the Troy Police Department, officers were called shortly after 9 a.m. on October 22 to the Speedway Gas Station on Burden Avenue for a report of an adult male in medical distress. When first responders arrived, they found a 45-year-old man in cardiac arrest. Troy Fire Department personnel transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Patrol officers at the gas station interviewed another individual who had been with the victim. That individual told officers that the victim had just been involved in a physical altercation moments earlier at a storage facility on Campbell Avenue. The friend said he was attempting to drive the victim to a hospital but stopped at the gas station when the man’s condition worsened and he needed immediate medical help.

Other responding officers went to the storage facility, where they identified multiple witnesses who confirmed that a fight had taken place between the victim and another adult male. The suspect had already left the scene but was located about 20 minutes later by alert patrol officers in the area of Hill Street. Detectives interviewed witnesses and collected evidence linking the suspect to the incident.

Investigators say preliminary findings indicate that the two men were known to each other and were both romantically involved with a third individual. The altercation is believed to have stemmed from that dispute and ultimately led to the victim’s death.

Police arrested 51-year-old Donald G. McIntosh Jr. of Troy, who has been charged with Manslaughter in the Second Degree. He was arraigned in Troy City Court and remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail.

In a statement, Deputy Chief of Police Steven M. Barker expressed condolences to the victim’s family and thanked the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Police Forensic Video and Multimedia Services Unit for their assistance in the ongoing investigation.

“The swift and coordinated efforts of our patrol division allowed us to identify multiple locations, secure evidence, and locate all parties involved within a short period,” said Deputy Chief Barker. “The victim’s family, friends, and loved ones remain at the forefront of our minds as we continue to work through this investigation.”

2nd Alarm Apartment Building Fire In Troy With Multiple Cats Rescued
Troy, NY

On September 21, 2025, at 4:16 AM, the city of Troy‘s Fire Department was dispatched to 181 6th Avenue for a reported basement fire. Engine four, engine one, engine two, truck one, truck two, medic four, the rescue squad, and the battalion chief responded to the scene. Car three and engine four arrived on scene with smoke showing from a two-story wood frame multi occupancy structure and immediately declared the signal thirty for a working structure fire. Firefighters immediately deployed an inch and three-quarter hand line to the front door, as additional units arrived on scene and immediately began to set up at the hydrant to supply engine four with a water supply.

Conditions on the second floor rapidly began to change as heavy black turbulence smoke began to push from the second floor as the truck companies were beginning to set up. Firefighters made a push inside the first floor where they had a significant fire condition in the walls. Command immediately noticing the significant changes and exposure issues transmitted the second alarm bringing the Watervliet Arsenal Fire Department, City of Watervliet Fire Department, Engine six, and the Green Island Fire Department to the scene. Firefighters made their way down into the basement but could not locate the fire and firefighters made their way into the first floor and continued up the stairs to the second floor. A firefighter on the first-floor notified command that the fire was in the floor between the first and second floor and traveling the walls.

As firefighters were getting additional hand lines in place and attempting to make the stairwell they had a significant heavy smoke condition pushing down on them with heavy heat and command ordered everyone to back out of the structure and as he was doing so the second floor of the structure lit off with heavy fire pushing from the windows of the structure and roof line. Command requested the evacuation tones to be transmitted, and firefighters began to blow the horns of the apparatus to get the firefighters attention so they would exit the structure. Firefighters exited the building and as soon as they were clear far enough back multiple firefighters quickly opened their hand line and the pump operator on engine four opened up his deck gun quickly knocking down the heavy fire condition on the second floor. Firefighters on the roof of the building immediately began to vent the structure to allow the superheated trapped gases to escape. Firefighters utilized defensive tactics for a few minutes before re-entering the structure to make an aggressive push to the seat of the fire that was still remaining.

Firefighters deployed multiple hand lines into the second floor as firefighters on the first floor conducted a primary search, they began to locate multiple cats and rescue them from the structure. Firefighters on the second floor continued to conduct interior operations for an extended period of time as additional firefighters began to pull ceilings and open up walls to find the hidden fire. Firefighters on the roof notified command that they had a significant fire condition traveling the attic line and deployed a inch and three-quarter hand line from the bucket of the truck company and began to knock down the fire condition from the vent hole in the front of the structure. Firefighters from the Watervliet Arsenal Fire Department made their way to the other side of the structure via their truck company and began to conduct vertical ventilation on the backside of the structure. Firefighters from the Green Island Fire Department deployed another hand line to the second floor of the structure and began to hit hotspots as crews opened up the front porch area and the inside of the second floor.

Firefighters continued to work for an extended period of time before locating one additional cat inside of the structure and brought it outside to the owner. National grid disconnected the gas and power from the structure and the city of Troy‘s Water Department was on scene to monitor the scene for any type of disruptions in the water supply. Firefighters continued to work until the early hours of the morning hitting hotspots and conducting extensive overhaul. Fire investigators arrived on scene and began to conduct their investigation into what caused the fire. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not been released publicly.
