I look out over the Santa Rita mountains from my studio window.

They are a source of great inspiration.

In this piece I imagine the mountains breathing and singing as I watch the colours change in the clouds above them.

My Nom de Plume is HRÆFN. I conceived and performed the piece with synths, percussion, and breaths. I also took the photograph and designed and created the cover art.

In December 2021 I finished writing the first part of my book ‘The Death of Albion.’

It’s about the Industrial Revolution arriving in the picturesqe county of Shropshire in England, the place where my Welsh ancestors settled for many years on their trek from Brecon in Wales to the hub of the new revolution - Manchester/Oldham.

The book is the fantasy of what happens to six year old Eliza Jones when she is kidnapped by the henchmen of the revolution and taken to work in the factories of the town of Ironbridge, Shropshire.

Magic ensues, and Eliza has the most amazing of adventures.

Well, life got in the way and I never finished the book and it has sat on my laptop ever since.

I DID however create an audio version of the introduction to the story which you can listen to / support at any amount at the link below.

Now I’m fired up to write the next stage of the book, and to potentially turn the finished book into an audio project with a storyteller and soundscape / musical accompaniment.

It’s going to be quite a process, and I am going to need help achieving it. If I set up a ‘go fund me’ account, would you be interested in contributing? Could you help with editing / help getting the project to the correct publisher / suggestions for self publishing? Help with any aspect of bringing the project to fruition will be gladly considered. Please ‘message’ me privately if you are interested in helping 🙂

I’ve just uploaded a new piece called TREE to my Bandcamp portal.

It’s about the tree outside my studio window, which is a meeting place for the birds in the neighborhood. The small birds gather there to chat and spread gossip, and then the Ravens / Crows barge in and push them out to have their time! After the Corvids leave, the small birds come back and the cycle continues .

PS: The Corvids are WAY noisier than the small birds! Oh, so much to say!!

I’m joined on this piece by a brand new collaborator who actually lives in the same town as me - my collaborators usually live in other parts and we work via long distant file sharing.

Her name is Marijane C. Milton. She has appeared in musicals, concerts, operettas, plays, choral programs (and the occasional piano bar) for decades. She currently resides in the Tucson AZ area with her three cats and her parrot.

Marijane’s voice is the tree that has lived a very long time in the desert, she’s feeling tired and weary, she’s been pummeled by winds, soaked in the monsoons, baked by the sun and has been a gathering place for thousands of small birds and Corvids over years.

I am very happy to welcome MariJane and her voice to my future creations.
