August 24 has some serious rock & roll energy attached to it—and one of the coolest stories involves a band that was still proving just how dangerous they could be.

⚡ AUGUST 24, 1978

VAN HALEN HIT CHICAGO.

While touring with Black Sabbath, a young Van Halen took the stage at Chicago’s International Amphitheatre.

This wasn't some nostalgia act.

This was David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and Michael Anthony in the middle of the explosive 1978 tour that was introducing Van Halen to massive rock audiences. They played Chicago on August 24 before continuing the tour.

And Eddie?

He wasn't just playing guitar.

He was changing what people thought a guitar could do. 🎸🔥

But that's only ONE chapter of today's music history...

🎸 1968 — Jimi Hendrix Experience

On August 24, 1968, the Jimi Hendrix Experience performed at the Bushnell Memorial in Hartford, Connecticut, continuing their American tour.

🎤 1991 — Guns N' Roses

On August 24, Guns N' Roses played a massive Use Your Illusion Tour show at the Maimarktgelände in Mannheim, Germany. More than 62,000 people were there. And here's the important correction: the Use Your Illusion albums themselves weren't released that day—they arrived September 17.

🎸 1971 — The Who

Who's Next was already on the charts in August 1971, with songs like “Won't Get Fooled Again” making serious noise. Contemporary Billboard-era radio listings show the album in rotation that week.

And here's one more reason August 24 matters:

🎶 1967 — Jimi Hendrix's Are You Experienced

The U.S. version of Hendrix's groundbreaking debut had been released the day before, August 23, 1967—so August 24 marked its first full day in the American market.

That's the kind of history we want to dig up.

Not the stuff that sounds right.

🔥 OH, SO NOW AI IS COOL? 😂

It’s funny watching some of the loudest “I HATE AI!” people suddenly discover that AI might actually be pretty damn useful…

Because Dr. Dre is using it.
Because Timberland is using it.
Because somebody they respect finally put their name next to it.

And suddenly the same people who were screaming:

❌ “AI is ruining everything!”
❌ “Real artists don’t need AI!”
❌ “AI is cheating!”
❌ “AI has no place in music or creativity!”

…are now standing around like:

👀 “Well… I mean… THIS is different.”

😂😂😂

No. It’s not different. You just finally got permission to think for yourself.

AI didn't magically become legitimate because a famous name touched it.

The technology didn't wake up one morning and earn a Grammy.

You just stopped hating the tool because somebody you respect figured out how to use it.

And that's the part that kills me.

Some people don't actually hate AI.

They hate change.

They hate not understanding something.

They hate seeing somebody create something they couldn't create themselves.

And most importantly…

They hate it until the cool kids do it.

So go ahead.

Pretend you were never against it. 😂

We'll let you rewrite history.

Just remember…

AI didn't become cool because Dr. Dre and Timberland used it.

They used it because it was already cool enough to be useful.

THE NIGHT LOU REED PLAYED HIS LAST SHOW WITH THE VELVET UNDERGROUND. 🖤🎸

On August 23, 1970, Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground took the stage at Max’s Kansas City in New York City.

Nobody in that room knew it at the time…

But they were watching the final Velvet Underground performance with Lou Reed. 😳

And here's the crazy part:

Someone was recording.

The performances captured that night were eventually released as the legendary live album Live at Max’s Kansas City. The recordings include songs like:

🎸 “Sweet Jane”
🎸 “I’m Waiting for the Man”
🎸 “Pale Blue Eyes”
🎸 “Sunday Morning”
🎸 “Femme Fatale”

That night became a piece of rock history—and the beginning of the next chapter of Lou Reed's career.

🔥 1969 — The Rolling Stones' “Honky Tonk Women” was sitting at #1 on the U.S. charts.

🎤 2008 — Madonna kicked off her massive Sticky & Sweet Tour at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in Wales.

🔥🎵 THIS DAY IN MUSIC — AUGUST 22! 🎵🔥

THE ZEPPELIN ERA WAS ENTERING ITS FINAL CHAPTER… ⚡🤘

On August 22, 1979, Led Zeppelin released In Through the Out Door in the United States.

It would become the band's eighth and final studio album—and it arrived after a more than three-year wait for a new Zeppelin studio record.

And the album wasn't exactly a quiet exit…

🔥 “Fool in the Rain”
🔥 “All My Love”
🔥 “I'm Gonna Crawl”

The album went straight to the top of the charts and became one hell of a final studio statement from one of rock's biggest bands.
