There's a lot of anticipation surrounding the cast, story, and release date of the sequels to Extraction and Extraction 2. Based on the graphic novel "City" by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman, the Extraction franchise centers on black-ops mercenary Tyler Rake (Hemsworth). In the first Extraction film, released on Netflix in 2020, Rake is tasked with rescuing the kidnapped son of an Indian mob boss. Extraction 2, in 2023, in which Rake is hired to free a Georgian gangster's family from prison, turned Extraction into a franchise. Given its success on Netflix, the news of Extraction 3's release came as no surprise, despite its excellent reception. Extraction 3 was also a ratings hit and Chris Hemsworth's biggest role since Thor. When Extraction became Netflix's most-watched original film, they quickly greenlit a sequel, and Extraction 3 continued that trend (along with news of potential spinoffs).
