FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SOUTHERN TENNESSEE WEATHER WELCOMES CHRISTOPHER KING, EXPANDING COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY-DRIVEN WEATHER COVERAGE

SHELBYVILLE, TN — Southern Tennessee Weather and Southern Tennessee Media, LLC are proud to welcome Christopher King to its growing team, further strengthening its mission of delivering clear, accurate, and community-focused weather coverage across Southern Middle Tennessee.

Growing up in Lynchburg, Tennessee, King developed an early fascination with weather that set him on a lifelong path. While most kids were watching cartoons, he was tuned into The Weather Channel, captivated by “Local on the 8s” and the storytelling behind each forecast. That curiosity only deepened as he began watching coverage in the Huntsville television market, where veteran meteorologist Dan Satterfield played a pivotal role in shaping his passion.

“Dan didn’t just tell you what was happening, he explained why,” King said. “That stuck with me. It made weather make sense, and it’s exactly how I try to communicate today.”

After graduating from Moore County High School in 2003, King pursued a career in education, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Technological University in 2008 and a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Middle Tennessee State University in 2013. Over nearly two decades in the classroom, he developed a teaching style centered on clarity, confidence, and connection—skills that now define his approach to weather communication.

Whether forecasting a quiet stretch of sunny days or navigating a high-impact severe weather setup, King focuses on more than just delivering information. He helps people understand the why behind the forecast, empowering them to make informed decisions for themselves and their families.

In 2010, King deepened his meteorological involvement by completing storm spotter training through the National Weather Service and becoming an active participant in SKYWARN. His hands-on experience as a spotter provided valuable real-world insight into severe weather, further strengthening his ability to communicate risk effectively.

What began as simple Facebook updates for friends gradually evolved into a trusted community resource. Over time, that effort grew into Christopher King WX, where he became a reliable voice for residents across Tullahoma, Franklin, and Moore counties—providing daily forecasts, real-time updates, and critical information during severe weather events. Through it all, his mission has remained unchanged: serve his neighbors, keep them informed, and give back to the community when it matters most.

At age 40, while many might slow down or settle into routine, King chose to expand his horizons. He is currently pursuing an Undergraduate Certificate in Weather Forecasting from Pennsylvania State University, further enhancing the depth, accuracy, and credibility he brings to his work. His continued education reflects not only a professional commitment, but also a personal one—to set an example for his children that it is never too late to chase a passion and that lifelong learning matters.

Now joining Southern Tennessee Weather, King will help expand coverage and outreach across Marshall, Maury, Bedford, Coffee, Moore, Franklin, and Grundy counties. His addition enhances the organization’s ability to deliver hyper-local, science-driven weather information while maintaining a strong connection to the communities it serves.

“Christopher embodies exactly what Southern Tennessee Weather stands for,” said Elijah Kirby, Founder and Meteorologist-in-Charge. “He’s trusted, he’s local, and he genuinely cares about the people he serves. His ability to educate while informing is a huge asset to our mission.”

As he steps into this new role, King remains grounded in what matters most.

“I’m a neighbor, just like you,” he said. “I’m raising a family here, and I understand how important it is to have reliable information when it matters most. My commitment is simple—clear, honest, no-hype weather you can trust.”

With King joining the team, Southern Tennessee Weather continues to grow its presence as the region’s most trusted source for hyper-local weather coverage—combining professional-grade forecasting with a deeply rooted community connection. While Meteorologist Elijah Kirby will remain the driving-force behind STN Weather, Christopher King will be a GREAT asset to help serve the communities we care about so deeply.

I promise I’m still here… I’m just trying to take it slow right now before things pick up this evening.

Gusty winds continue out of the south right now, with gusts up to 45 MPH already being observed across the area. Strong wind gusts will continue through the evening even before storms arrive, and isolated power outages are possible.

SOME NOTES HEADING INTO THE EVENING:
• I am a one-man operation. Everything you see on this page is done by ME — meteorologist Elijah Kirby. Please bear with me tonight and understand that while I’d love to answer every question individually, that may not always be possible.

• 95% of questions can be answered by scrolling through the page and looking at earlier posts.

• I do not control school closings or storm shelter openings. I will pass along that information as soon as I receive it. If I haven't posted anything, then its safe to say I don't know.

• I go LIVE on Facebook, YouTube, X, my smartphone weather app, Roku, Samsung TV, and Amazon Fire TV apps whenever severe thunderstorm warnings or tornado warnings are issued. I stay live until the warnings expire. Search "Southern TN Weather” on your preferred Smart TV or Smartphone App Store.

• Any unnecessary comments or idiotic messages will get you blocked very quickly. I simply do not have time to babysit the comment section tonight. If you don’t have anything nice or constructive to say, keep it to yourself.

Thanks, everyone. We will get through this TOGETHER! Stay tuned for updates this evening!

I’ve had a lot of new folks follow me over the past week with our winter storm, so I thought I’d take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Elijah Kirby, and I am the 23 year-old owner, founder, and Meteorologist-in-Charge of Southern Tennessee Weather.

I’ve lived in Bedford County for 18 years. I grew up here, and I’ve always had a strong interest in weather. That interest really became a passion after the April 2009 Murfreesboro tornado, which had a big impact on me at a young age. Like many people, that storm caused a lot of storm anxiety for me, and instead of letting that fear take over, I chose to learn everything I could about the weather. Understanding it helped ease that anxiety, and over time, it turned into a lifelong goal of becoming a meteorologist.

While I was in high school at Shelbyville Central, I started Shelbyville Weather right here on Facebook in 2018. Through many snowstorms, tornadoes, wind storms, floods, heat waves, and Arctic blasts, I’ve worked to ease fears and clearly communicate our ever-changing weather across Southern Middle Tennessee.

After graduating high school, I attended the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where I earned my bachelors degree in Atmospheric and Earth Systems Science. I meet all educational requirements to serve as a National Weather Service meteorologist.

In this new digital age, there are a lot of new “pages” popping up, both from meteorologists and non-meteorologists alike. What I hope to bring to the table is factual, non-hype weather information that is easy to understand and down to earth, with a little humor mixed in. You don’t need to see screenshots of every weather model. You don’t need to see the 300+ hour GFS model showing a major snow storm. That’s my job. I interpret the data and deliver a forecast you can trust. That is what a meteorologist is supposed to do.
Unlike some other pages, this is my full-time job and business. This isn’t a hobby. This is my livelihood, and I take the responsibility of serving my communities VERY seriously. I work very closely with the National Weather Service and local governments / Emergency Management Agencies for this reason.

In addition to running Southern Tennessee Weather, I serve as the consultant meteorologist for Duck River Electric, helping them prepare for and respond to storm impacts across our service area. I am also the on-air meteorologist for six local radio stations across Southern Middle Tennessee:
WLIJ 98.7 (Talk / County)
WZNG 100.9 (Classic Rock)
WDUC 93.9 (Classic Rock)
WFTZ 101.5 (Top 40 / Hot AC)
WHMT 95.9 / 105.1 (Country)
WMSR 107.9 (News / Talk)

Southern Tennessee Weather proudly serves seven counties in Southern Middle Tennessee: Bedford, Coffee, Franklin, Grundy, Marshall, Maury, and Moore Counties. You can find us on Facebook, X, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. We also offer downloadable apps on Apple, Google Play (Android), Roku TV, and Amazon Fire TV, along with our website at stnweather.com. We also have a 24/7 weather channel with current conditions, forecasts, futurecasts, camera views, radar loops, and more!

I’d also like to take a moment to thank our wonderful sponsors who help make local, independent weather coverage possible:
Duck River Electric Membership Corporation
Heritage South Community Credit Union
Cornerstone IT Solutions
Keri Evans, Realtor
First Community Bank
Lamb Counseling
Tullahoma Pediatrics
Trott Co. Excavation

If you’re interested in sponsoring what I have going here, please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]!

Southern Middle Tennessee is now firmly entering the heart of an Arctic outbreak, and while light snow showers and flurries will remain part of the forecast through Saturday, they are not the primary concern. This is not shaping up to be a high-impact snowfall event for our region. Instead, the domi
