Restaurant Tasted: Oliveto Italian Bistro

Food Ordered:

Appetizer: Asiago Spinach Dip

Main Course: Asiago Spinach Chicken w/ Rigatoni Pasta, Hercules Pizza, Sonoma Turkey Panini w/ French Fries.

Dessert: Chocolate Chip Cookie w/ 4 Milk shots

The appetizer was delicious and loved that the spinach dip had a delightful twist. Jalapenos, bacon, roasted peppers and onions were added to what you would normally call Artichoke Spinach Dip and it was very good. Would recommend!

The Asiago Spinach Chicken Pasta was the table favorite and had the same sauce as the appetizer and it was very good mixed with chicken and pasta. Very good flavor and would definately order again.

The Hercules pizza was a woodstone crust topped with tomato sauce, pepperoni, capocollo, salami, asiago, mozzarella, provolone, red onions, tomatoes, pepperoncinis and toasted herbs. Although it sounds really tasty, it wasn't really our favorite. The pizza itself ended up being very bland and unexpectedly chewy. Maybe due to all of their pizzas being gluten free. The pepperoncinis dominated in flavor and wasn't a huge fan of that.

The Sonoma Turkey Panini had turkey breast, provolone, sliced avocado, spinach and sun-dried tomato pesto aioli. Was served with french fries which were extremely good.

For dessert we had the Chocolate Chip Cookie which was served in a mini cast iron pan. I think the thing we loved most about this was the shot glassed filled with milk that was served with it. Very fun dessert!
Our waitress was Amber and she was very attentive and took very good care of us. We were very pleased with the service we received and her kindness.

Although we liked the food we had for the most part, and the service was exceptional, we all felt like there are better Italian restaurants in the area. If you do happen to go, ask for Amber.

Verdict: Wasted

Restaurant Tasted: Upper Crust

Food Tasted

Appetizer: Fried Mozzarella

Entree: Tony’s Italian & Flying Pig Pizzas

Dessert: Cookie Pie w/ Vanilla Ice cream

We had fried mozzarella for an appetizer and it’s exactly what it sounds like, breaded and fried Mozzarella. It was delicious and agreed that it was better without the marinara sauce. Would recommend!

The pizza is wood-fired and honestly not my favorite. The crust lacked flavor, but the toppings were delicious.

Tony’s Italian had roasted garlic sauce for the base, pepperoni, spicy sausage and would normally have peppercinis, but we swapped those out for pineapple. It was covered with mozzarella. Was a bit spicier than we expected.

The Flying Pig had pig sauce for the base, which is the marinara mixed with ranch, then topped with chicken, bacon, fresh mozzarella and swirls of ranch to top it off. This pizza was our favorite.

We were pleasantly surprised by how good the Cookie Pie was. We went with the chocolate chip cookie that came in a mini pizza pan and was topped with vanilla ice cream. We would go back just to have the dessert.

Our waitress was very attentive and kind. Smoke-free/Kid friendly.

Would like to add that we loved this pizza joint, but it wasn’t our favorite. It was very loud, the pizzas were small and everything was pretty pricey.

Restaurant: The Rusty Crane

--Food Tasted--

Appetizer: Pork Nacho Libre

Main Course: Smack and Cheese, Lettuce Wraps, The Murph Burger, Mango Fish Tacos, and Blackened Chicken Alfredo.

Dessert: Brownie Sundae

Our table was built inside an old elevator which was interesting as the walls were built around the old elevator parts. Our server, Max, was friendly and knowledgeable about the food there and made several delicious suggestions. The nachos were his first suggestion and a big hit with the whole table.

The main course favorite was the murph burger, an open faced sandwich with an egg, avocado, cilantro, pickle, tomato, and red onion. The blackened chicken pasta is made with penne, sautéed with tomato, mushroom, almond and spicy diced blackened chicken, tossed in alfredo sauce and topped with parmesan. The lettuce wraps are filled with diced chicken, sautéed with carrot, garlic, water chestnut, and their house Asian sauce. Both the pasta and lettuce wraps were too spicy for the palate of those who ordered but may be perfect for someone with those tastes. If you don’t mind spice then they’re definitely worth a try.

The smack and cheese is penne baked with parmesan oregano bread crumbs in a cheese cream sauce, and served with buttered bread. We weren’t crazy about the smack and cheese as it was a little bland. The mango fish tacos are described as the house favorite and are seasoned tilapia seared in coconut oil and topped with lettuce, mango salsa, lemon garlic aioli and cilantro. Even with all of these ingredients, they still seemed a bit bland.

The Brownie Sundae was very delicious, but that should go without say, since it's a brownie.

Overall we liked the food and environment of The Rusty Crane. Was a bit pricey but overall a positive experience. Though it may be better suited toward getting an appetizer and a couple drinks. We would definitely go back again.

Restaurant: Arizona’s
Food Tasted:

Appetizer: Chips and Salsa

Main Course: Nachos Supreme, Pollo Hawaii, and Toastadas De Ceviche De Camarones

The supreme nachos are made with ground beef or shredded chicken, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, sour cream and house guacamole.

Pollo Hawaii is grilled chunks of chicken, pablano peppers, onions and pineapple and served with veggies and rice. Had a great flavor of sweet and spicy.

The table favorite, Tostadas De Ceviche De Camarones is shrimp, tomtoes, onions, cilantro, and jalapenos topped with lime, and avocado. The best part of the meal was definitely the guacamole. Fresh and smooth and it stayed green for two whole days. As a huge fan of guacamole one knows that you can’t eat it leftover because it turns brown, but not this time.

The wait staff were all extremely friendly. As we were leaving we tried winning an animal out of their claw machine for the little one with us. After three unsuccessful attempts one of the employees walked out and handed us a free tiger.

Kid friendly and smoke free from what we could tell. Atmosphere was pleasant.

Restaurant: Mondo's Italian

Food tasted:

Appetizer: Hot Spinach & Artichoke Dip with bread

Main Course: Tortellini, Clam Linguine, Rigatoni & Meatballs, and Mondo's Famous Hero

Dessert: New York Cheesecake with Cherries

The Spinach and artichoke dip was good but not the best we had tried. The bread served with it was hard and didn't complement the dip at all.

Tortellini had a light alfredo sauce and wasn't anyone's favorite or anything special. The Clam Linguine had a great flavor, but was too oily, a taste that lasted all day. The Rigatoni and Meatballs had an excellent flavor. Chose to get the marinara sauce with it and it complimented the homemade meatballs very well. Mondo's Famous Hero, made with Genoa salami, pepperoni, capocollo, prosciutto, and a blend of Italian cheeses melted on Italian bread topped with lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, and their homemade Italian dressing was everyone's favorite. A must try!

For dessert we chose the New York Cheesecake which was very creamy with a golden crust and very tasty.

Our waitress seemed like she was having a bad day and was just ready to get out of there for the day which was sad because we enjoyed the restaurant. The restaurant is family owned and a great atmosphere for any occasion.
Smoke-free/ kid friendly.

Restaurant: Cardigan's

Food Tasted:
Appetizer: Bread and Butter
Main course: Mixed Grill, Fish and Chips, Beef Stroganoff, Asian Stir Fry with Chicken, Asian Stir Fry with Beef, Kids Spaghetti.
Dessert: Chocolate Intemperance Cake

The bread was perfect. We don't know how they did it but the outside was crispy and the inside was chewy. That was everyone's favorite part of the meal.

The 'Mixed Grill' included filet mignon, grilled chicken, grilled shrimp, mashed potatoes and seasoned veggies. For the price it was well portioned. The steak and chicken slightly dry. The shrimp was delicious but the real star of the meal was the mashed potatoes. The fish from the Fish and Chips was Cod. The batter was delightfully crispy and topped with Parmesan. It normally comes with coleslaw and fries but we substituted mashed potatoes for the coleslaw and it was worth it! The Beef Stroganoff was our least favorite meal of the night. It had a wine/vinegary taste to it and the beef was dry. The chicken/beef Asian Stir Fry was made with a ginger peanut sauce, with the chicken being the favorite of the two. The kids spaghetti had huge portions and the sauce was a bit watery but very good. It was our favorite meal ordered and enough for two adult meals. So keep that in mind if you're ordering it for your little one.

For dessert we picked a chocolate mousse brownie/cake drizzled with raspberry and chocolate sauce, topped with a maraschino cherry. The maraschino cherry taste was stronger than the raspberry and there was definitely a dark chocolate taste, but the mousse was smooth and wonderfully whipped.
Our waitress was very attentive. Took 6 orders without writing it down and didn't miss a beat.
Smoke-free/Kid friendly.

Food Tasted: Complimentary bread and oil, pizza, and chocolate cake.

I could have just eaten the bread and oil and been satisfied. It was a mix of soft and hard pieces and I enjoyed both of them. I was told the oil was spicy but I didn’t taste any of it. I just must have not gotten any pieces of red pepper on my bread even though I dipped generously.
They are known for their pizza so we ordered the Mulberry and Prosciutto and Egg. The Mulberry is your classic meat lovers with Italian sausage, pepperoni, Canadian bacon, and beef. The pieces of meat were cut small which we liked better. The Prosciutto and Egg was, exactly that, prosciutto and egg with basil and tomatoes. That was a first for me, but it was my favorite of the two. Egg can be put on any type of food, though, and fit right in. Prosciutto is another new ingredient for me on pizza and in general. It tastes like bacon but not quite as good. However, prosciutto was the better choice over bacon for this pizza any day. The basil and tomato tied it all together. The one thing I would say about this pizza was that they needed an egg on every piece rather than three for the whole pizza. The pizza crusts and homemade sauces on both pies were the best I’ve ever tasted.
They had a lot of options for dessert and we decided on the chocolate cake because the picture made it look delicious. We were wrong. The cake was dry even with the massive amounts of frosting toppled on. The Hershey syrup definitely cheapened it. We will be trying something different next time, that is for certain.
The service was wonderful. Our waitress Carsyn was really sweet and there were a few managers that seemed excited to be there. I’m not a fan of dark lighting in restaurants but if you do then you’ll enjoy that.
