From TV anchor to business owner! It’s been a crazy, fun, emotional ride, and I wouldn’t change a thing; good or bad.

I recently found this picture; I was anchoring in Las Vegas at KVBC the NBC Station. The year was 1998, I was barely 28 and I had no idea what life had in store for me.

I’ve seen some of the most horrific scenes, and experienced some of the most incredible joys—but every encounter brought with it some of the most amazing people and memories.

Through the decades came waves, tsunamis, and tornados of emotions. For many years I truly struggled with depression, sadness and anxiety. Even now, I still struggle and have days that can bring me to my knees. Had it not been for family, friends and therapists—I couldn’t have survived.

As we embrace National Mental Health day, I encourage anyone who’s struggling to speak up and reach out. It’s one of the hardest and bravest things to do—and asking for help doesn’t make you weak it makes you human. For those who do not deal with any of the above, I encourage you to ask—really ask and check in with people…even if you don’t think anything is wrong. Your smile, hug, phone call, or text can change the trajectory of a person’s life.

Be kind to one another, try and be empathetic, listen, and treat others the way you want to be treated. “Kind” is a four letter word that doesn’t harm but lifts people up.
