Yes, I know today is the day Prince was born.

No, I’m not on the air today.

He didn’t celebrate his birthday in real life because he was a Jehovah’s Witness, but we (his fans) like to honor him on this day.

I celebrated his UN-birthday with my good friend Xylo Sesame and the lovely people of The Starlite last Friday. I’m sorry if you missed out. I tried to tell you I was gonna be there, but some of y’all were too busy. Trust me. I get it! 🤣

My hope is that you keep his music on repeat today, and remember why he was the most talented Artist/Creative/Musician/Polymath on the planet.

Each of these songs showcases the group's unique style and lyrical prowess, and has contributed to Wu-Tang's legendary status in the hip-hop world. So, you should definitely give them a listen if you haven't already. What are some of your favorites? Drop me ya favorite bar

A few pieces of my Prince memorabilia:

I saw him in concert (only) 3 times.

Jam of the Year - OKC 1997
One Nite Alone - Dallas 2001
Musicology - OKC 2004

See my little signs I made trying to get him to play my favorite songs? ‘Condition of the Heart’ is one of the songs I would like to hear Omaley B play on the piano. Mostly because I know he can hit those falsettos and he can play the keys just as beautifully as Prince did.

Maybe I can get him to listen to it some day.

7 years. Time is a trick though. We all knew him. Be it in person or through his music. He is still a part of your fiber. Your being. Tune out all the noise. Let those thoughts and memories stay with U and create new ones. Think back to when U first discovered his music, when U first discovered him. So many happy memories, right?

Our palette has colors that he provided, just with a splash of purple more than the others. The artistry he presented actually flows through U, be it with acts of kindness, sharing anecdotes, and yes, even those that use his lyrics as a pick up line to get someone they wouldn’t have had a chance with without it.

Celebrate him. Not just today. Not just on his birthday. It is ok to be sad but also remember, he provided U with a multitude of incredible memories, amazingly fun times, experiences, bringing U peace when there was no quiet, the space between the notes, with an all access pass. He is still with us in the metaphysical way. Allow yourself to be open in ways that perhaps without his music U wouldn’t be open to.

Through your memories and experiences, share it with someone else that may not understand why he meant so much to U. Make a playlist. Buy someone their first vinyl or their first Prince vinyl. Listen to it with them. Create a new memory that can be with U for all time.

The emphasis of the art is truly it is in the eye of the beholder. It is always on time. It is there with U. His music and those beautiful experiences are just a fingertip away. Through that guitar lick, that heavy bass line, the note in the key of c, it is right there for U to access. Don’t let all that noise keep breaking U down.

His music got U high. His music made U feel moments of love, desire, passion, a sense of euphoria that U cannot exactly put into words yet it is there.

Thank U, PRINCE. For being there for me in ways no one else was. Thank U, PRINCE, for playing such an important part of the person reading this right now and their journey. Thank U, PRINCE for when things got challenging, U found another way, to persevere, to create, to keep pushing. True Funk Soldiers will fight the battle to make a Revolution that will continue with this New Power Generation and to the next, and to the next, and to….Thank U Prince. I miss U. It’s time to funknroll n punch a higher floor.

Much Love..always. Jeremiah Freed/jseven/Funkenberry

Y’all remember the dress Julia Roberts wore in Pretty Woman? When she said, “Oops.. slippery little suckers.”

Yep, same one. Well… it was a knockoff anyway. 🤣

I played De La Soul ‘Breakadawn’ into Michael Jackson’s ‘I Can’t Help It’ in my Back2Back segment on The Weekend Rewind with Ali Shaw yesterday.

Can’t believe Trugoy is gone.

De La Soul fans are NOT ok right now. 💔
