Sweet Nadine brought their 90s alt rock energy to Slice. The downtown pizza restaurant/bar on Main Street fit their vibe perfectly. The kind of venue that could easily sit in Seattle or Portland.

The line up
AJ Gonzales - Lead vocals/guitar
Mikelle Ferguson- Lead guitar/vocals
Landon Day - Drums/vocals
Mike Bryan - Bass

Though the band is currently performing covers, their setlist is smartly curated to keep the crowd engaged and singing along. They’re all 90s kids, channeling that era’s grit and melody with genuine chemistry on stage. Three of the members come from musical families. Their fathers play in the longtime local group Dirty Johnny, and it shows. Stage presence, musicianship, and a love of live performance have clearly been passed down. Two of those proud dads were there for the whole show, helping where needed, then watching with big smiles. Their influence also surfaced in nods like “Johnny B. Goode,” “Burning Love,” and a rock edged “Margaritaville.”

AJ, on lead vocals and guitar, isn’t afraid to belt. He knows his range and uses it well, connecting with the audience between songs with easy humor and confidence.

Landon,on drums, hit heavy and steady, his pocket locked in effortlessly with the rest of the band.

Mike, on bass, stayed animated and engaged, a refreshing sight that added to the night’s contagious energy.

Mikelle’s guitar work stood out throughout. His phrasing and tone made each cover instantly recognizable. It’s no surprise he also plays with Idaho 75. His style balances precision and personality.

A few stand out moments included “Shine,” “Can’t You See” (sung by the drummer), and an impressive vocal display on “Far Behind.”

Sweet Nadine has only been playing together since around February 2025, but their chemistry and confidence already shine. They’re off to a strong start, and if this show is any indication, they’re going to do just fine.

Before the show, I had a great chat with Tim Stastny, owner of Slice and former lead guitarist of Raising Cain(a band that helped shape the Idaho rock scene in the 90s). His stories were a reminder of just how deep Twin Falls’ musical roots run.

Slice itself deserves mention for its welcoming atmosphere, great menu, and attentive staff. A welcoming home for live music in downtown Twin Falls.

The Musicians of Twin Falls Oktoberfest
2025

The weekend may have been cold, windy, and rainy but the music never stopped.
Through the chill of Friday night, the gray showers of Saturday afternoon, and the gusty evening that followed, Our local musicians showed up, tuned up, and reminded us of what it means to love what you do.

Saturday evening marked the “Last Call” End of Summer Bash at The TapHouse-2nd South Market, featuring two bands and a DJ. While Mr. A closed out the night, I made it a priority to capture Northleft for StageHeart,a group that’s been keeping busy all season long.

These guys have had a full summer, playing gigs and open mics all across the Magic Valley. They’ve become a well known name locally, with repeat and annual appearances at events like Twin Falls Tonight,The Taphouse Summer concert Series,1000 Springs Festival of the Arts, and Oktoberfest downtown. Their loyal fan base shows up ready to sing along, making each performance feel like a reunion with friends.

NorthLeft’s style blends Folk Rock, Americana, and Roots Rock, with a few surprises. From touches of reggae to flashes of 80s new wave. It’s a mix that keeps their shows fresh and fun.

Band lineup
Joshua Summers – Lead Vocals, Guitar
Karl Sloth – Guitar, Mandolin, Vocals
Nathan Harper – Drums
Adam Crofts – Bass

The band often brings in Brian Smith on harmonica or accompaniment guitar, adding an extra layer to their live sound.

Joshua’s vocals carry a distinctive tone with a lighter quality that fits well within the band’s storytelling style. He pairs this with confident guitar work and a heartfelt delivery that connects with the audience.

Original highlights
“Sands of San Diego”– their flagship track, lyrically thoughtful and reflective.

“Back Downtown” and “John Wayne”– songs the crowd knows and loves.

“Pray the Storm”, “Januaries”, and “Ice Cream in Calgary” – unreleased originals that give fans something to look forward to.

Notable covers at this show,
“Wondering Why” – Red Clay Strays
“Life During Wartime” – Talking Heads

Takeaways from the night..
Joshua’s guitar work and on stage energy really shaped the set, while Nathan’s drumming stood out for its consistency and versatility, holding everything together with precision. The band’s chemistry, built from years of playing together gives their performance a natural, easy flow that audiences can feel.

NorthLeft remains a key part of the Magic Valley music scene, bringing familiar faces, original songs, and a sense of connection to every stage they step on.

Friday night at the The TapHouse-2nd South Market was alive with energy as friends and families gathered to hear Gene Sievers and the Idaho 75 Band.

Before the first note was played, there was a warm, welcoming vibe in the space. One that matched the band’s easy camaraderie. As members walked up the ramp, Gene high fived them, setting a tone of connection and fun that carried through the entire night.

Gene, a local country singer/songwriter from Kimberly/Twin Falls, has been playing and writing music most of his life. He recently traveled to Nashville to record his debut album, celebrating its release at none other than the Taphouse. With Idaho 75 recently undergoing a lineup change, Gene stepped up as lead vocalist, bringing both his powerhouse vocals and natural showmanship to the forefront.

The bands lineup
Mikelle Ferguson(also of Sweet Nadine)on lead guitar
Craig Maki (guitar)
Michelle Butler (bass)
T.J. Wasko (drums)
Lance Butler (keys and vocals)

They may be new in this configuration, but you wouldn’t know it by watching them perform. Each musician brought seasoned talent and confidence to the stage. They displayed great inter group communication as well and often exchanged smiles.

From the very first riff,a bold, attention grabbing opening, the energy was cranked. They kicked off with high octane ‘80s rock classics like “Summer of ‘69” and “Danger Zone.” Gene didn’t hold back, hitting those soaring high notes with passion, his charisma commanding the whole space.

As the night unfolded, Gene’s range as a performer became clear. While his roots are firmly planted in country music, he seamlessly shifted between heartfelt ballads and rock anthems. One of the most memorable moments came when he introduced Cody Johnson’s “Till You Can’t.” Before starting the song, he spoke to the crowd with genuine emotion,

“You’re never too old to chase a dream.”

Gene also showcased his original music, including the upbeat crowd pleaser “My Truck is a Karaoke Bar” and the lyrically rich ballad “Indian Springs Road.” These songs highlighted not just his vocal ability but his skill as a storyteller, inviting the audience into his world.

While Gene’s stage presence was magnetic,(reminiscent of a mid-90s Garth Brooks concert )each band member had their own shining moments. Mikelle’s guitar solos were dynamic and impressive, Michelle kept the rhythm steady and strong on bass, T.J. delivered consistent, driving beats behind the kit, and Lance’s keys added depth and texture that elevated the band’s sound.

Idaho 75 may be a new lineup, but watching them, you’d never guess it. Their mix of country heart and rock and roll edge made for a performance that was both heartfelt and entertaining.

You can stream Gene Sievers debut album “The Way This Feels” on all major streaming platforms.

Sunday night at Big Papa's Grill & Live Music in Twin Falls, I made it a point to check out Coel Harris’s new project, The Tragic Valley Manglers. This was their third performance as a band, and it was clear from the first riffs that this group has found their lane and they are gunning it.

While Coel’s other band, The Valkories, leans more toward a grunge/roots rock blend, The Manglers are unapologetically metal. Not the polished, modern kind, but the old school metal that takes you back to the sound of a garage jam session.

The setlist featured heavy, reimagined versions of Coel’s original songs, including,
Wrong Horse
To Whom It Concerns (TWIC)
Hammer Nap
Icaris
Plus an exceptional cover of Pearl Jam’s Dark Matter. Hearing these originals in this new format was fascinating vocally and lyrically. They felt elevated, hitting with a force that only a true metal band can bring.

On stage, passion was at the forefront.
Coel performed as if for a crowd of hundreds, his stage presence commanding attention as he poured himself into the lyrics and riffs.

Tony (guitar) showcased his veteran skills, playing with the ease of a perfect jam session.

Dave (bass) traded in his usual stand up bass from The Valkories for an electric, unleashing a whole new side of his musicianship with some intricate fretwork.

Christian (drums) who usually plays guitar and mandolin with The Valkories was a standout surprise, his impressive timing and dynamic playing gave the set both power and precision.

What struck me most wasn’t just the musicianship, but the shared passion. Watching a group of musicians who all love the same genre deeply ,who get to unleash that love together on stage is something special. It’s a testament to the power of music.

The Tragic Valley Manglers aren’t just playing metal ,they’re living it. And if Sunday night was any indication, this band is only getting started. 🔥🤘🏼😎

“You never know what we’ll play next.”
That’s Mr A’s tagline and Friday night at Koto Brewing Company proved just how true it is.

From start to finish, the night was pure fun. The kind that keeps you smiling long after the last song ends. With combined experience and diverse styles, Mr. A delivers a dynamic show that feels effortless.

The Line up
Jacob Jones – lead vocals/percussion
Dennis Weber – guitar/vocals (also a guitar, drum, and piano instructor at Dunkley Music in Twin Falls)
Dick Johnston – drums/vocals
Thad Whitesell – bass/vocals
Toby Mikolyski – keys/vocals

Jacob’s vocals are truly pro level. His control and range allow him to move between genres with ease, making him a vocal chameleon who can’t easily be compared to anyone else. Add in his effervescent stage presence, and you’ve got a lead vocalist who knows how to captivate a crowd.

Some highlights from the night,
“Heard It in a Love Song” (a total dopamine hit with gorgeous harmonies in the chorus.)

Toby on keys singing “1979” by Smashing Pumpkins (a surprising and perfect fit for his voice, with harmonies that impressed.)

A stellar Motown medley blending “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and “Soul Man”.

They also showcased their ability to deliver four part harmonies.

What really stands out is the band’s obvious love for what they do. Their appreciation for Motown, R&B, and so many other genres shines through every performance. Dennis kept the crowd engaged with fun song introductions and little known facts. It’s obvious he is a true music connoisseur as well as a gifted musician.

While they’re primarily booked for private events, if you’re lucky enough to catch Mr. A at a public venue, don’t miss it. These guys are down to earth, interactive with the crowd, and simply put,a must see act that deserves to play even more public shows. 🤘🏼

Shoutout to Koto Brewery for hosting our local musicians!
I recommend trying their steak tacos 🔥

Thursday evening, I finally made it out to Redhawk Gastropub to catch Avery Soloaga’s acoustic set. It’s been on my to do list for a while now and I’m glad I did.

It was a beautiful evening on the canyon. As the sun began to set, the back patio glowed with warm lights, overlooking the breathtaking view below. The atmosphere was a perfect setting for live music. The RedHawk staff were attentive, upbeat, and welcoming, and the food ,
Always delectable.

From the moment Avery stepped up to the mic, it was clear that this show would truly fit the scenic backdrop and overall atmosphere. His vocals are smooth and soothing, leaning on the breathy side yet capable of surprising power when the song calls for it. There’s a touch of grit that he sprinkles in just the right places, a signature style that has led others to compare his voice to artists like Zach Bryan, Tyler Childers, and Charles Wesley Goodwin.

Though he’s only in his 20s and newly married, Avery plays guitar with skill beyond his years. Seamlessly moving between rhythm and melody, he has the kind of playing that could easily stand beside more seasoned musicians.

Avery is just beginning his musical journey, after recently teaming up with other local musicians he expressed his dream of forming a full band. His set featured a mix of originals and covers that gave a glimpse into both his influences and his heart as a songwriter.

Originals included
“House of Sin”,”Rocky Mountain Rider” (a song about escaping life’s routines, saddling up, and riding toward freedom.), and “Won’t You Stay” (his newest single, released just this month.)

Faith runs through many of Avery’s lyrics, and you can feel it in the way he delivers each song with sincerity and purpose.

Covers ranged from heartfelt to unexpected.
A beautiful rendition of “Feathered Indians”.A softer acoustic take on “Seven Nation Army”,A surprise reimagining of “Ice Ice Baby”,And a stunningly tender version of Shania Twain’s “You’re Still the One”.

Between songs, Avery took time to chat with the crowd, showing his genuine love for his community. There’s a quiet humility about him. The kind of artist who feels shy about even mentioning his original songs or encouraging people to stream them.

Avery Soloaga is a true country boy at heart,Grounded in faith, community, and storytelling. His music embodies what country and folk songwriting are all about. Connection,Heart and Authenticity.

🎶You can find Avery’s music on all major streaming platforms.🎶

The Cove’s 20th Anniversary

For two decades,The Cove of Twin Falls has been more than a restaurant,it’s been a cornerstone of the Magic Valley live music scene. Owned and operated by a husband and wife duo who are talented musicians themselves, The Cove has nurtured countless artists through open mics, live performances, and unwavering support for local music.

Saturday afternoon and well into the night, the community came together to celebrate The Cove’s 20th anniversary and the owner’s 50th birthday. With seven powerhouse bands, exceptional food and drinks, and an unforgettable crowd, it was an evening that perfectly captured the spirit of what The Cove has built over the years.

Perhaps the most powerful takeaway was the camaraderie among musicians. Even artists who weren’t scheduled to play came out to support, and those who performed stuck around to cheer on their peers.
The result was a true testament to the thriving talent and unity of the Magic Valley music community.

The Cove’s 20th anniversary celebration was a living, breathing example of what happens when music, community, and passion come together. With seven outstanding bands, a great crowd, and unforgettable moments,it truly showcased the heart and soul of the Magic Valley’s Live Music scene.

EllieMae’s performance yesterday at Redhawk Gastropub was a beautiful reminder of why live music matters. It was raw, heartfelt, and authentically country.

From the very first song, her pitch was flawless, carried by a natural ear for music. Ellie knows how to utilize breathiness to pull listeners in, adding just enough delicate vibrato and perfectly executed slider notes. At the right moments, she sprinkled in a touch of grit/vocal fry, bringing an extra layer of emotion that made her storytelling come alive.

Her set was pure country with a subtle hint of Norah Jones vibes, blending strength and soul. She brought a refreshing twist to well loved covers like “Cowboy Take Me Away”, “Delta Dawn”, and a gorgeous rendition of “Vienna Waits for You.”
Ellie also shared her heart through her original music, performing “Rebel Child” and “Hope You’re Doing Well.” A song she wrote while missing home during her time away at college.

Between songs, Ellie took moments to chat and laugh with the audience, exchanging smiles and warmth. She moved smoothly through her set, maximizing every moment, yet still found time to personally say hello to fans, even stopping to share a bit of her journey. She revealed she’s been playing guitar since the age of nine, self taught by ear, without a single formal guitar or vocal lesson. A true testament to her love for music and natural talent.

Her style matched her sound. A well worn pair of cowboy boots, a sign of an authentic cowgirl whose journey is lived, not staged. Ellie’s roots run deep here in Idaho, where she’s locally loved and nationally recognized. In 2019, she took her talents to the national stage on The Voice, joining Team Blake and making our community and the State of Idaho proud.

Ellie Mae’s Christian upbringing, down to earth nature, and undeniable skill blend beautifully to create performances that are as heartfelt as they are captivating. Watching her play felt less like a show and more like being invited into her world,a place where authentic country music and home town pride thrive.

This performance also held special significance. On September 11th, as the largest American flag in the country was unfurled and flown above the Snake River, Ellie paused her set in respectful reverence. It was a profound moment of pride and remembrance.
