This month, New York Governor Kathy Hochul amended the state's labor law regarding pay frequency that significantly reduces penalties for employers paying manual workers semi-monthly instead of the mandated weekly schedule. While weekly pay for manual workers remains the requirement, employers who pay semi-monthly will now only owe interest on late payments, not the full amount of back wages. We urge businesses to review their payroll practices to ensure compliance, but for now, they can rejoice.
