⚠️LIFE THREATENING FLASH FLOODING!!⚠️

The National Weather Service is warning of life-threatening flash flooding in parts of Henderson and Anderson Counties in east Texas as thunderstorms continue to dump torrential rainfall over the same areas.

Radar estimates indicate nearly HALF A FOOT of rain has fallen in just 2 hours across parts of Athens, and I am already seeing reports of flooding coming in.

Numerous roads, low-water crossings, creeks, and flood-prone areas are likely flooding. Additional rainfall will only worsen the situation.

If you live in the warned area, stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

⚠️FLASH FLOOD WARNING - WACO AREA ⚠️

This storm is essentially parked over the warned area and continues to produce torrential rainfall.

Radar estimates indicate over 5 inches of rain has already fallen in parts of the Waco metro, and with the storm showing little movement, additional flooding is becoming increasingly likely.

Water can rise rapidly after dark, especially in low lying areas, underpasses, creeks, and flood-prone roads. If you encounter a flooded roadway, turn around immediately. Don't risk it.

⚠️FLASH FLOOD WARNING for parts of Henderson and Anderson Counties in east Texas!!⚠️

Radar estimates show 2-4 inches of rain has already fallen. Heavy rain continues to fall across the warned area. Flash flooding is either ongoing or expected to develop shortly.

If you're in or near Athens, Malakoff, Trinidad, Cross Roads, Log Cabin, Star Harbor, Cayuga, Bethel, or surrounding areas, use extra caution tonight. Never drive through a flooded roadway. Turn Around, Don't Drown.

🌀TROPICAL UPDATE:

Chances of a tropical depression or tropical storm are increasing as the disturbance moves back into the Gulf this week. The National Hurricane Center has raised chances of development to 30%.

While there is still uncertainty regarding development and the eventual track, confidence is growing that parts of Texas and Louisiana could see heavy rainfall and flooding concerns next week. Some areas could potentially receive up to a foot of rain depending on where the system tracks and how quickly it moves.

I'll continue to monitor this system and will provide updates when they become available so make sure to stay tuned and hit that follow button!

The NWS is beginning to release flood watches across Texas! I expect more to be issued over the next day or so. Widespread rain totals up to half a foot are possible with some areas having the potential to receive over 8 inches between now and Wednesday!

A large portion of Texas is under a Slight Risk for excessive rainfall today. Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms may produce locally heavy rainfall, which could lead to flash flooding in poor drainage areas, low water crossings, and urban locations.

Not everyone will see heavy rain and flooding, but any storm that repeatedly moves over the same area could quickly dump several inches of rain in a short period of time.

I’ll likely be back on the road storm chasing this upcoming week! Big decisions coming though. Do I target a potentially significant severe weather and tornado risk in the Midwest? Or do I stay in Texas and cover the potential flooding and maybe tropical system? Both events have a low amount of certainty at this point.
