UPDATE 3:35 PM: Based on the investigation thus far, it appears that there was a large off-campus party at the Payne County Expo Center. When that party ended around 2:30 a.m., a group of individuals came to campus to have an “after party.”

Investigators indicate the shots were fired outside of Carreker East hall as a result of a disagreement between individuals. No shots were fired inside the hall. OSUPD arrived within minutes to Carreker East and McDonald’s, along with Stillwater PD officers. Officers at Carreker secured the scene and determined there was no ongoing threat to campus.

The OSUPD is aware of three individuals with gunshot wounds. Only one was an OSU student.
OSUPD is actively reviewing evidence and working toward a swift conclusion. The Stillwater Police Department and the Payne County Sheriff’s Office are assisting. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is collaborating with the OSUPD in processing evidence from the scene at Carreker.

Google Donates $600,000 to Stillwater Public Schools for Energy Efficiency Upgrades and Classroom Equipment

STILLWATER, Okla. (October 13, 2025)— Stillwater Public Schools (SPS) today announced a $600,000 donation from Google to support local education and energy resilience efforts across the district. The funding includes $500,000 for energy efficiency upgrades throughout school facilities and $100,000 for new classroom equipment for Kindergarten and first grade as well as Stillwater High School.

The investment will help the district implement a comprehensive LED retrofit initiative to reduce long-term energy costs while enhancing learning environments for students and teachers. The District anticipates reducing energy consumption by 2,447,476 kilowatt-hours, which will lead to an annual cost savings of more than $342,600.

“We are excited to welcome Google to our community and grateful for their commitment to supporting our students,” said Tyler Bridges, Superintendent of Stillwater Public Schools. “The cost savings from the energy-efficiency upgrades will allow us to reinvest in academic programs, technology and infrastructure, while the new equipment will have an immediate impact on student learning and engagement at the elementary and high school levels.”

Energy efficiency upgrades funded by the donation include converting outdated fluorescent, incandescent and metal-halide lighting to energy-efficient LED systems, upgrading the emergency lighting infrastructure, retrofitting parking lot and stadium lights on key athletic facilities and enhancing district-wide signage.

The new funding will allow the District to purchase Chromebooks for kindergarten and first-grade students providing them access to reading and math tutoring programs.

A new high school College and Career Pathways computer lab will support students who are seeking career pathways in business, computers, fashion and government to build their portfolios.
This donation comes as Google recently announced plans to build a new data center in Stillwater at the intersection of Perkins and Richmond Roads. The new site is part of the company’s $9 billion commitment to expand its cloud and AI infrastructure in Oklahoma over the next two years.

“As we expand our presence into Stillwater, we’re proud to support students and educators with tools and cost-saving programs that help schools succeed,” said Kate Franko, Google’s regional head of data center public affairs. “Stillwater Public Schools’ forward-thinking approach to energy stewardship helps create a more resilient, sustainable future for the whole community.”

TODAY IS THE DAY!
Get ready for some rolling, bouncing, and full-on car dancing, the first annual Hennessey Hood & Hydraulics Car Show is hitting town on Saturday, September 13th!

For the uninitiated, a hood and hydraulics show is part car show, part performance. “Hood” means engines on display, gleaming chrome, wild paint jobs, and enough custom detailing to make any gearhead swoon. “Hydraulics” means cars that can hop, drop, tilt, and bounce in time with the music. Think lowrider ballet, but louder.

This high-energy, colorful event comes with serious bragging rights and $3,000 in prize money from Big Dog Kustoms. Competitions include Street, Super Street, and Radical classes, plus Top 10 Sweepstakes and Best of Show cash prizes.

Fuel up with food vendors, enjoy live music from El Junior & Delta Sierra, and check out the Hopper Show at 8:00 pm. Gates open at 6:00 pm, the show kicks off at 6:30, and the band cranks it up at 9:30. Beer garden available for the 21+ crowd.

Location: 1100 N. Mitchell Rd., Hennessey (just north of 4Ts Market)
Info: Harold Shaw at 405-853-1905 or Ashley Zielny at 405-853-0077

Eight Stillwater High School Students Named National Merit Semi-Finalists

Stillwater Public Schools is proud to announce that eight seniors have been named as semi-finalists for the National Merit Scholarship:

Alexander Kearns-Shook
Alex Kidangathazhe
Yejoon (Aiden) Kim
Jonathan Ku
William Lin
Katherine Liu
Caleb Wieman
Stephan Zhang

On September 10th, officials from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of 16,000 semifinalists in the 71st annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Over 1.3 million juniors in about 20,000 high schools entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 6930 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million that will be offered next spring. Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and approximately half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.

“We are extremely proud of these Stillwater High School Pioneers and their remarkable accomplishments,” said SHS Principal Walter Howell. “This recognition not only reflects their dedication and hard work but also the support of their families, teachers from their early years on, and peers who have helped them along the way. These students represent the very best of Stillwater, and we are excited to see the opportunities that await them as they continue in this competition.”
