The fin was adorned with an image of an Olympic athlete to commemorate the achievements of Group Captain Don Finlay DFC AFC. 41 Squadron's OC from September 1940-August 1941.

Emphasis was placed on high subsonic maneuverability. Detail design was finalized by the end of 1983, and the construction of six XT-4 prototypes began in the spring of 1984. The construction effort was collaborative, with Fuji building the wing, rear fuselage and tail unit, Mitsubishi the centre fuselage and air inlets, and Kawasaki the forward fuselage.

The Saab JAS 39 Gripen is a light single-engine multirole fighter aircraft manufactured by the Swedish aerospace company Saab AB. The Gripen has a delta wing and canard configuration with relaxed stability design and fly-by-wire flight controls. Various versions have been built, grouped as A-, C- and E-series.

Four serial production aircraft will be transferred to the Brazilian air force during 2021, along with two to Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration, says Jonas Hjelm, head of Saab’s aeronautics business area.

The Apache AH-64D/E is the Army’s attack helicopter. It is capable of destroying armor, personnel and materiel targets in obscured battlefield conditions. The Apache is fielded to both Active Army and Army National Guard armed reconnaissance battalions and cavalry units. The aircraft is designed to support Brigade Combat Teams across the full spectrum of warfare.

There are currently over 500 Apache in operation or in development across 16 partner nations. The current acquisition objective is 812 aircraft.

As Canada’s first true intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) helicopter, the fly-by-wire Cyclone is equipped with a fully integrated mission system, modern sensors and a multi-mission cabin — providing a quantum leap in maritime helicopter capability.
Entry into service with the Royal Canadian Air Force occurred mid-2018 aboard one of the Royal Canadian Navy’s Halifax-class frigates.

Full operational capability of the fleet is scheduled in 2022.

Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the militaries of a number of former Soviet republics have continued to operate the MiG-29, the largest of which is the Russian Air Force. The Russian Air Force wanted to upgrade its existing fleet to the modernised MiG-29SMT configuration, but financial difficulties have limited deliveries. The MiG-29 has also been a popular export aircraft; more than 30 nations either operate or have operated the aircraft to date.
