From the desk of Les Butler
I just spoke with Brian Lester congratulating Brian and his family for 100 years of stellar ministry via the medium of Southern Gospel Music. 100 years. A century. No other group in the history of music, all genres, can say that. They own that record by themselves. Truly remarkable.
I asked him what kind of press and publicity has been out there helping to celebrate their 100 years. He said, “I honestly don’t know.” After doing some research, it looks like the Singing News has a story in the November issue. For my two cents, I am just blown away that there wasn’t a big deal made of this from all Southern Gospel sources.
As for REAL Southern Gospel Radio, we contacted Brian over a year ago. We conducted an exhaustive interview, worked on give aways, finding and digitizing old Lester vinyl, etc.” Somebody has got to stop the press and shout to the world that this is a big deal. 100 Years of music and ministry.
Starting tonight and continuing throughout the weekend, you will be listening to music, interviews and historical vignettes, shining a spotlight on the fabulous Lesters. And there’ll be more coming at a later date. REAL Southern Gospel Radio refuses to let the patriarchs, matriarchs and the music that built Southern Gospel Music, to just die-off and blow away!
Next month it’s JD Sumner and the Stamps month, celebrating 60 years of stellar quartet music. Oh, and yes, we play the best in current traditional Southern Gospel Music like the Inspirations, Greater Vision, Mark Trammel QT, Mylon Hayes Family, Williamsons, Inspirationals QT of TX and more. Come and join us.
