Earlier today I spoke with Scott McCaulley on Ozarks Now about our current winter weather situation, the “You’ve Been Caught” award for people caught doing great things in our community, and the controversy surrounding the most recent Board of Aldermen meeting.

As your Mayor, I’m committed to transparency and accountability. Your elected officials are here to serve you, not rule over you. I was extremely frustrated that both individuals in the public, and on the Board, were stopped from speaking due to parliamentary procedure tactics that were used to end discussion. I don’t feel that is transparent, nor do I feel it is respectful of the time of the many who came out to be heard.

I believe that if the public takes time out of their lives to come and speak before their elected officials, the very least we can do is hear them out.

Moving forward I am unwavering in my commitment to transparency and a citizen-focused city government. That’s one of the marching orders that you gave me when you elected me as your Mayor, and I take it very seriously.
