1⃣.The placenta provides oxygen and nutrients to your growing baby and removes waste products from your baby's blood.
2⃣.The average placenta weights somewhere between 1-3 pounds
3⃣.The placenta acts like a lung for the baby, allowing the transfer of oxygen just like the lungs do in a newborn baby or adult.
4⃣. The making of the placenta is a team effort. 50% of the cells come from the mother and the other 50% of the cells come from the baby.
5⃣.The food a mother eats during pregnancy does not go directly to the baby. It is broken down into tiny particles of proteins and nutrients that cross the placenta.
6⃣. A baby can send stem cells through the placenta to heal its mother's organs if they are damaged .
7⃣.The placenta is the only a disposable organ in the body.
8⃣.Every minute during pregnancy, one pint of blood is being pumped into the uterus, exchanging nutrients with the placenta.

Repost - If you were told this, you were likely lied to.

Yes, even if your grandmother was told this, and then your mother, and then you. Just because someone said it doesn't make it true. It may have just made their job easier.

Except in cases where there has been previous damage to the pelvis (like broken bones from an accident) or a deformity (due to a disease like Rickets), your body WILL birth your baby if given enough time and the ability to move into the right positions (and, in rare cases, a little assistance).

When a provider says a pelvis is too small, they are usually referring to Cephalopelvic Disproportion (CPD). CPD means that a baby's head is too large to fit through the mother's pelvis. True CPD is incredibly rare and super difficult to determine.

Most of the time a diagnosis of CPD is given with absolutely no basis for the statement.

Once in a while a series of measurements called “pelvimetry” is used to determine the size of the pelvic outlet to see if the baby will fit. These measurements are basically useless, however, since they can’t account for the fact that your pelvis expands by up to 30% during birth, and your baby’s skull plates slide over one another to fit the space (forming a cone). You also can’t know a baby’s size before birth, since late term ultrasounds are notoriously inaccurate.

So, basically, they’re guessing.

More often than not, a diagnosis of CPD is due to lack of patience, an unnecessary induction, or other controllable circumstances. Many cases of “failure to progress” during labor are arbitrarily given a diagnosis of CPD.

Were you told that your pelvis was too small to birth your baby?

So I’ve been keeping it quiet for these last 2 weeks, but I made it into nursing school! I am excited to see where this journey takes me and nervous for my mental strength to persevere, but I know I will make it out to the other side! One step at a time ❤️

What are you paying for when you hire a doula?

Here's a pretty good graphic that helps to explain that. 💁🏽‍♀️ Give the gift 🎄 of a doula. Best baby shower gift EVER!

I don't think I will ever get over how much I love these photos! ❤

Many people think birth photography is always graphic, but I don't think they realize it doesn't have to be 🧡

I know I sure didn't realize that with my first. I wanted as few people in the room as possible. Now I look back and wish we had photos. My mom thankfully snapped a few, but it was really only a few before and then right after baby was born. I really wish I had known.💛

Yes, birth photographers usually try to get a few shots of baby crowning or in-between the womb world and the outside world. However, that doesn't mean that you have to have those shots taken! Those shots can also be taken from more 'modest' angles if that is what you prefer. All you have to do is let your photographer know your preferences. Birth photographers are there to document a completely transformational experience in your life. 💚

did such a wonderful job with Em's birth photos. She has completely sold me on its importance. I will never not recommend having someone there to capture the incredible journey into parenthood 💙

I can only hope I will be a fragment of how good she is in the future 💜

Repost• Giving birth is by far the biggest, most important, thing most of us will do in our lives. We should be given the opportunity to birth with control, grace and peace. I often hear, "healthy mom, healthy baby is what matters". Yes, but it's not only about physical health it's also about emotional and spiritual health. Birth without trauma.
