Something I’ve always wanted to do since I’ve been collecting records is have something I worked on pressed on vinyl. A couple years ago Isaac and I did a cover of one of our favorite Relient K songs, Empty House. It started as a way to re-find our passion for music, for him it was figuring out the piano part and the vocals and for me it was taking that and mixing it into a more complete song with some help from my dad laying down the guitar and the percussion tracks.

I’m still incredibly proud of the song we made and am grateful for all the help and advice we received throughout the process, from people loaning instruments to the final mastering.

If anyone is interested in ordering it, the test pressings sound great! They’re manually lathe cut in small batches, final cost of the record would depend on the final quantity we order.

I had an exciting December doing contract work for Element Church in Missouri. For their Christmas series I ran monitors through night 1 and shifted my attention to their broadcast mix for the rest of the Christmas services. To start the year I returned home to front of house on the Allen and Heath D-Live

Fun weekend, instead of my usual spot at front of house I got to use pro tools for the first time since college and use a series of Avid S1’s to mix the broadcast for a church based in the lovely state of Missouri!

What better day to post the first song I ever created than April fools… a little background: I am FAR from a musician and my first quarter of college at IPR we were tasked with creating a 45 second song for our midterm to show that you knew how to do all of these things in Pro Tools. Some automation, sends, inserts, panning, midi, and probably more. So I pumped out a song that fit the criteria but I didn’t care how it sounded. We were supposed to title it LastName-FirstInitial-MT-FINMIX and mine was so legendary that my peers were calling me finmix
(Side note I did get an A+). My friend shared it on sound cloud under the name Johnny marinara. Let me know what you think or if you want stems to remix it into an actual real song!

Well I haven’t been super active in the past week. I have been running around from city to city for a week now, started last Saturday and Sunday at running FOH and then I was off from there to Chicago to help for a day before they flew me out to Denver to help install a sick LED wall. Thankful I made it back to sleep in my own bed last night before I came back to St. Louis to run FOH again. Woah here we go!
