The numbers are in from February 15, 2025’s Stop the Coup Emergency Townhall. The Unitarian Society’s Sanctuary, Parish Hall and the Courtyard were full to capacity with standing room only. Those who were not able to get into the town hall to watch in person were directed to the Church’s streaming service to watch outside from their phones. In total, both online and in person, 3,000 were able to hear Cong. Salud Carbajal, Assemblyman Greg Hart, State Senator Monique Limon, Supervisor Laura Capps, and Immigrant Legal Defense Center’s Executive Director Julissa Pena speak to everyone in attendance on what action is being taken in both Sacramento and Washington to counter the daily attacks on all walks of life in this country.

We were very fortunate to have Congressman Salud Carbajal as our guest again to discuss his recent achievements despite being part of the minority party, his new term, the 2024 Latino vote, and what we can expect for our region of California.

Salud Ortiz Carbajal, U.S. representative for California's 24th congressional district since 2017. He is a member of the Democratic Party, and his district covers Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo and Sant

, Head of School at Midland School speaks with Neil Kreisel about the school’s history, curriculum, and values.

"In a community that accepts you just as you are, being true to yourself — and perhaps exploring the unknown parts of who you might become — is welcomed and encouraged. Here at Midland, students of various backgrounds and identities come together to form a community and foster belonging. Without the added pressures of social media and online self-performance, Midlanders can slowly evolve and grow into the humans they're meant to be, rather than the ones society tells them they should be!” midland-school.org

Kevin Hayakawa, Assistant Professor of Physics at CSU Channel Islands shares his passion for planetary science with Neil Kreisel, his research into the formation of planets, and how he shows his students to study other remarkable mysteries of the universe.

Hayakawa recently procured $375,000 NASA grant which will allow select students to job shadow planetary scientists at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena.

“The grant is specifically for a minority-serving institution, which we are,” Hayakawa said. “It’s meant to increase the visibility and opportunities for minorities—to increase the number of STEM majors in historically marginalized groups. They’ll get a chance to see what a day in the life of a planetary scientist is like.”

The students will also get to visit the Santa Rosa Islands Research Station and see the stars with zero light pollution at night, and they’ll attend the American Astronomical Society conference in Maryland in January 2025.

Dan Morain spoke with Neil Kreisel about “Kamala’s Way”, the first biography on Vice President Kamala Harris. Originally published (Simon & Schuster) in 2021, he’s added a new epilogue since her ascension to the top of the Democratic ticket.

You get a decent and unemotional non-partisan look at the former Attorney General and Senator from our great state from a man who has covered California policy, politics, and justice-related issues for more than four decades, including twenty-seven years at the Los Angeles Times and eight at The Sacramento Bee, where he was editorial page editor.

Reviews:

"Detailed and dutiful...Ms. Harris—as is her prerogative—omitted much detail from her own autobiography. Mr. Morain has filled in many of those blanks." – The Wall Street Journal

"An essential road map to understand the life and groundbreaking political journey of the former California prosecutor who next week will become the country’s first female vice president." – Politico

"A revealing portrait of the people and events surrounding Harris’s rise to political stardom." – New York Times Book Review

"The author... shares stories of the Harris that exists when the cameras are gone, and does it in a way that's not sensational or tabloid-ish. Instead, it's thorough, honest and a quick-to-read education about our new second in command, so if you think you don't know enough about her, add it to your must-read pile, because Kamala's Way is a great next step.” – Miami Times

"Morain brings deep familiarity with California politics to an admiring, yet balanced, biography of Harris... A brisk, well-informed narrative of political ascendancy." – Kirkus Reviews (starred review)

"This is a brisk and evenhanded account of Harris’s trailblazing career." – Publisher's Weekly

“Morain’s deep-rooted reporting experience covering California politics is evident on every page… This is a great read for anyone interested in a richly contextualized account of Harris' political evolution.” – Booklist
