Want to keep your best mushroom genetics for the long haul? Rule #1: Always. Be. Copying.

Hold part of your first syringe in the fridge as a "vault." Expand your first liquid culture and copy it again. Agitate your jars daily, label everything, and trade your extras like a sourdough baker with too much starter!

It's the simplest way to build your own personal "fungi library."

Overwatering living soil is too easy. Need a reliable way to measure moisture? Start using tensiometers, and transform your entire approach!

They act like artificial roots, measuring soil tension so you know exactly how hard plants are working to access water. Suddenly, watering becomes simple, measurable, and repeatable.

If you're serious about living soil, tensiometers belong in your toolkit!

Organic soil isn't "set it and forget it." Over time, plants remove nutrients, microbes shift, pH drifts, and structure breaks down.

Adding compost, castings, or cover crops keeps your soil alive, but only if you know what your soil actually needs. Testing between every cycle ensures you're feeding your plants exactly what they require.

Check out these pro tips for testing and amending your organic, indoor soil.

Most gardeners pack away their tools in fall—but winter growing is possible! ❄️🌿

Niki Jabbour describes a cold frame as "a bottomless box with a clear top" that traps solar energy and creates a protected microclimate for winter crops. Combine this with straw hotbeds, tunnel covers, or simple windbreaks, and you can harvest fresh vegetables all winter long.

Many cold-hardy vegetables actually get sweeter in cool weather:
Kale: hardy to -6°C
Radishes: mild + crisp in winter
Brussels sprouts: good to -12°C with cover
Beets: sweeter after frost
Bok choy: frost-tolerant and fast-growing
