"The more people that talk about and cover these stories, the better chance we have of resolution and resolve," said Jay. "It was never about me. It was always about the story and the victims."

Our Story.
Hi, Iโm Cameron Jay, host of Classic City Crime, a new true crime podcast coming to Athens, Georgia.
Hereโs what I donโt want this to be: another podcast you binge and leave behind pile of podcasts past. I want to continually tell stories, continually seek answers, always fight for justice, and with your help. Why?
My momโs best friend and my second cousin (if I did the math right...it was never my strong suit) was gunned down as she worked from a movie store in 1996. Though only a child at the time with no memory of her, Iโll never forget those times when her name would come up and the sadness would set in on my mom and familyโs faces. For my cousin and my family, Justice was eventually served. But, this did little to prepare me for a more personal loss I would experience at age 13.
Jacob was my best friend, meeting in the first grade probably arguing on the playground about something most first-graders probably donโt have on their mind: our weather predictions, our thought on the political climate (like we knew anything about that), and more. Thatโs how our friendship was: challenge one another but always, always be friends. We were, until his life ended at the hands of at distracted driver in 2008, just one semester away from finishing our junior high career. Iโll never forget Jacob, the lasting effect his death had on me, and Iโm grateful that his family, too, was able to eventually see Justice served. Still reading? Good. The next partโs interesting.
Iโm not sure if it was my desire to know โwhat really happensโ or my encounters with death at a young age, but somewhere along the way in my adult life I found myself working in a funeral home for nearly 3 years. I loved the job but if Iโm being candid, I hated the sadness. Murders, suicides, you name it-- we saw it. It was the cases where answers never came and families were left to grieve not only a loss but the harsh reality that the truth might not come.
This life has taken me through some interesting ups and downs, all of which I know is why Iโm here creating this, and youโre here (hopefully) still reading.
These experiences inspired the creation of the Classic City Crime Podcast.
Beyond my desire to seek answers, fight for justice, and help families tell their loved oneโs stories, I also love this city. Athens is my home. Itโs the place where I have found my chosen family, and anything that would put people in my community in harmโs way is personal for me.
I hope youโll join me on this journey. The interviews are happening. The stories are unfolding. You may help solve a mystery...or get people talking who can. While you wait, be sure to sign up to become a Classic City Crime Insider for all the latest updates https://www.classiccitycrime.co/cccinsiders.
Cheers,
Cameron Jay
