It was great to be invited back to the University of Georgia to speak to first-year students about “The Truth About True Crime”, a class led by my friend Dr. Shannon.

Such an inquisitive group this year. I’ll never pass up the opportunity to share about my work with the Baker family— and just how far we’ve come.

Like I’ve said since the beginning of this journey- so long as we keep telling victims’ stories, we ensure they are never, ever forgotten.

Edric Faust was arrested in May 2023 after DNA and forensic evidence linked him to the 2001 case. Investigators believe Faust sexually assaulted Baker before setting fire to her Athens home.”

Another cold case has been solved under the provision of the Coleman-Baker Act…Tara and Rhonda’s legacies live on.

It was the honor of a lifetime to work on this legislation with the Baker and Coleman families, Eternal Vigilance Action, and State Rep. Houston Gaines (and many others) on this historic bill that will continue to deliver justice for victims of cold case homicides— and their families.

Here’s our statement regarding the recent arrests made in the Cold Case investigation into the 2020 murders of Cheryl Newsome and Troy Bennett.

Our thoughts continue to be with Daniel’s family, and we continue to believe justice can be theirs! As we are seeing across the state as a result of the Coleman-Baker Act, when local law enforcement and state law enforcements look back at cold cases, they can in fact be solved!

If you know anything about this case, please reach out to the Athens-Clarke County Police Department.

A reward is being offered regarding the homicide of Daniel Macias. Help detectives with leads on this homicide from 2016.

"The more people that talk about and cover these stories, the better chance we have of resolution and resolve," said Jay. "It was never about me. It was always about the story and the victims."

Our Story.

Hi, I’m Cameron Jay, host of Classic City Crime, a new true crime podcast coming to Athens, Georgia.

Here’s what I don’t want this to be: another podcast you binge and leave behind pile of podcasts past. I want to continually tell stories, continually seek answers, always fight for justice, and with your help. Why?

My mom’s best friend and my second cousin (if I did the math right...it was never my strong suit) was gunned down as she worked from a movie store in 1996. Though only a child at the time with no memory of her, I’ll never forget those times when her name would come up and the sadness would set in on my mom and family’s faces. For my cousin and my family, Justice was eventually served. But, this did little to prepare me for a more personal loss I would experience at age 13.

Jacob was my best friend, meeting in the first grade probably arguing on the playground about something most first-graders probably don’t have on their mind: our weather predictions, our thought on the political climate (like we knew anything about that), and more. That’s how our friendship was: challenge one another but always, always be friends. We were, until his life ended at the hands of at distracted driver in 2008, just one semester away from finishing our junior high career. I’ll never forget Jacob, the lasting effect his death had on me, and I’m grateful that his family, too, was able to eventually see Justice served. Still reading? Good. The next part’s interesting.
