PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, City of Kingston Police Department, Town of Ulster Police Department, City of Kingston Fire Department, and Ulster Hose Fire Department are actively operating at a water emergency scene on the Esopus Creek in the vicinity of Washington Avenue.

Law enforcement is requesting the public’s assistance. If you have a family member or know of anyone who may have been in the area of the Esopus Creek and is overdue in returning home, please contact the police immediately.

Members of the public are urged to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to safely and efficiently conduct their operations.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

HEADLINE: Winter Storm Warning issued December 25 at 12:34PM EST until December 27 at 1:00PM EST by NWS Albany NY

DESCRIPTION:
* WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 8 inches.

* WHERE...Eastern Ulster, Western Greene, and Western Ulster Counties.

* WHEN...From 4 PM Friday to 1 PM EST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Travel could be difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Moderate to heavy snow will develop around or just after sunset Friday, and will remain heavy at times Friday night. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will be possible Friday evening. The snow gradually tapers off Saturday morning.

INSTRUCTIONS:

If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

- Gather supplies
- Turn refrigerator/freezers to a colder setting
During an Outage
- Stay clear of downed power lines
- Turn off all appliances
- Keep refrigerator/freezer doors closed
- Do not use generators indoors
- If you have a disability/access needs, or use Life Sustaining Equipment (LSE) & need immediate assistance, dial 911.

commutes.

The National Weather Service in Albany has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
Northwestern Litchfield County in northern Connecticut... Southwestern Berkshire County in western Massachusetts... Northeastern Dutchess County in east central New York... Southeastern Columbia County in east central New York...

* Until 230 PM EDT.

* At 145 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Ancram, or 16 miles southwest of Great Barrington, moving northeast at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.

* This dangerous storm will be near...
Sheffield and Ashley Falls around 205 PM EDT.

Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include Whitehouse Crossing, Ancramdale, S***m, East Sheffield, Hartsville,
Konkapot, Wangum Village, Gomorrah, W**d Mines, and Spencer Corners.

INSTRUCTIONS: TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
