NYS Emergency Management: A Flood Watch is in effect for Broome Chemung, Cortland, Sullivan, Tioga, Tompkins, and Ulster Counties through midnight tonight. Up to an inch and a half of rain is possible in the affected counties with the heaviest amounts falling this afternoon. Heavy rainfall rates will cause hazardous conditions on roadways. Strong to damaging wind gusts are possible, along with localized flash flooding. Poor drainage areas, and locations that already received recent heavy rainfall will be most susceptible to flooding.

Today marks a historic milestone for the Kingston Fire Department.

We are proud to celebrate the graduation of Recruit Class #1—the first-ever career fire academy hosted entirely in-house by our department. Over the past 10 weeks, 12 recruits dedicated themselves to an intensive training program totaling 229 hours, meeting all New York State requirements for career firefighters.

The academy featured 12 core classes including Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Firefighter Self-Rescue, Engine Company Operations, and Truck Company Operations. Training was led by dedicated members of the Kingston Professional Firefighters Association, with critical support from Ulster County Fire Instructors.

Congratulations to our newest members—you’ve earned your place in the long tradition of service and excellence that defines the Kingston Fire Department. Welcome to the job!
