My husband works as a bank clerk. I work from home but always loved gardening. Two years ago, I told him I wanted to use our backyard to grow flowers and sell bouquets online.
He and his family shut me down instantly:
Husband: "Don't even think about it. Stick to your desk job. Growing flowers won't pay the bills."
MIL: "Gardening as a business? Don't embarrass yourself."
SIL: "Why waste time in the dirt? Get a normal job."
I ignored them. After months of hard work, my little "hobby" started making money. By year two, it was profitable and booming. That's when my husband's tune changed.
He looked at my books and said: "Wow, I didn't think this would go anywhere. Now that it's flourishing, I want my fair share—no less than 50%. After all, you're using my soil."
When I reminded him the house is in both our names, he shot back: "Actually, I owned it before you. Technically, it's mine."
Then his family piled on:
MIL: "It's family land, so it's a family business."
FIL: "Your flowers grow on our heritage. Respect that."
BIL: "She wouldn't have this without us. She owes the family a share."
Ohhh, that was it. ⬇️
