The Florida pool industry is confronting significant challenges due to proposed legislation that could undermine contractor licensing and jeopardize consumer protections. Most recently, bill HB 991 which aims to:​

- Dismantle the Construction Industry Licensing Board, removing oversight for 32 professions, including pool contractors.

- Eliminate mandatory continuing education for contractors, potentially "dumbing down" the industry.

To better understand what is at stake we sat down with Dallas Thiesen, Chief Government Relations Officer for Florida Swimming Pool Association. Thiesen explains how this late-session legislative push could dramatically impact Florida’s pool contractors — and the entire construction industry.

Ending the day with some good news, The Florida pool industry successfully pushed back against a Senate Bill amendment that would have allowed general contractors and builders more latitude to build wet pool decks without subcontracting to licensed pool contractors.

Last week the Florida Swimming Pool Association released an alert letting the industry know they needed help taking the fight to Tallahassee. The industry was able to quickly mobilize and provide the FSPA support to advocate on the industry's behalf.

Recently they let us know that efforts to push this language out of the revised Senate bill were successful. 👏

A controversial amendment to SB 712 prompted swift backlash from the Florida pool industry, uniting contractors and trade associations.
