Adam A. Meyers is a Police Captain with Hartford Township Police Department, a Certified Peer Specialist in Wisconsin, and the Founder of Stop The Threat – Stop The Stigma. With over two decades in law enforcement—including roles as Police Chief, Detective, Arson Investigator, and Instructor—Adam is a passionate mental health advocate.

After a life-altering 2016 on-duty shooting, Adam faced personal and professional mental health challenges, ultimately using his experience to inspire others. He shares his story through national podcasts, magazines, newspapers, and as a contributor to books like "LIVING BLUE" and “Take Back Your Power”.

Adam’s mission is to promote law enforcement wellness and break the stigma surrounding mental health in first responders.

From Addiction to Awakening: My Journey to Recovery

I've been battling addiction since I was 18—what started as w**d and pain pills turned into a full-blown opioid addiction. I made choices I’m not proud of, including stealing from someone who trusted me. Even pregnancy couldn’t stop the cycle. I gave birth at 21 and tried to get clean with m**hadone. At 23, I quit cold turkey. At 25, I had my son—then m**h took over.

But on March 28, 2024, everything changed. My daughter and I were in a devastating car accident that nearly took her life. That moment broke me—and woke me up. I knew I couldn’t live this life anymore.

Now, I’m choosing recovery. Every single day.
