There’s nothing quite like Appalachia when it comes to biscuits and cornbread! In this flavorful episode, we dive into the rich culinary heritage of these Southern staples. Food historian Leni Sorensen shares the deep roots of cornbread in the region, we visit Wade’s Mill to see how traditional grains are still being ground today, and stop by The Happy Hog to learn the art of biscuit-making. Plus, we highlight favorite family recipes from members of the Appalachian Americans Facebook group.

It's a warm, hearty taste of Appalachian tradition — right from the kitchen.

As summer draws to a close, Appalachia’s native grasslands are hard at work scattering seeds for next year, giving wildlife food and shelter, and keeping our soils healthy. This season’s transition is a crucial time for these rare and beautiful prairies.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll share a series of short educational videos inspired by our documentary The Prairie Preacher: Preserving Appalachia’s Grasslands featuring Dr. Dwayne Estes from the Southeastern Grasslands Institute. First up: Are Grasslands a Part of Solving the Climate Crisis?

Keep PBS in Blue Ridge PBS!!

We are at a critical point in our station's history. Almost $1 million, or 29%, of our annual funding was eliminated with the recent federal cuts.

Your donation today is vital for us to remain a PBS affiliate.

How can you help?

Make a one-time donation of $125 now AND sign-up to be a $10 a month sustaining donor. Why are we so specific? We have about 8,000 donors and if everyone could fulfill this request, we would reach our goal now and in the future.

We realize not all can make such a financial commitment. Give what you can and if you are able to exceed our request, please do so.

THANK YOU to all who have responded already and check our website to see how we are progressing.

On October 26, 2002, the Statler Brothers took the stage for the last time in a career that began over 40 years ago. At The Salem Civic Center in Salem, Virginia, the house was packed, enthusiastic and adoring. THE STATLER BROTHERS FAREWELL CONCERT documents the event and celebrates one of country music's most honored acts. These four guys from Virginia, with their signature blend of four-part harmony, have been firmly rooted in nostalgia from the time they came of age. Their music celebrates American small-town life of the 1950s, but they also sing of adult defeats and heartbreaks and growing old. After 32 albums that have sold more than 100 million copies, brothers Harold and Don Reid, Phil Balsley and Jimmy Fortune have decided to call it a career. They leave at the top of their game - one of the most popular, durable and unconventional acts in the history of country music. THE STATLER BROTHERS FAREWELL CONCERT is a fitting tribute to a band that author Kurt Vonnegut once called "America's poets."
