Getting grass to grow in a shady area of the cemetery can be difficult at times. This is the second time I have planted grass here in hopes that it will take root and keep the sand and mud from covering the headstones. A friend at work told me about a fertilizer called Milorganite which is a slow release nitrogen fertilizer that makes grass grow fast and thick! I seeded this spot 8 days ago and look at the growth! I got up early this morning and drove into town to water it… a rainstorm on Tuesday this week will wet it again and next weekend I will water it again. Pray it works this time!

Unfortunately there is another woodchuck hole in the cemetery here in town… the wildlife biologists say that we have a lot of small animals around now because the coyote and fox population is down this year… well whatever the reason I hope we can get them under control before they cause a lot of issues.

Im trying text to talk on this video by request… let me know what you think!

I took a trip yesterday to Adrian Michigan to put this stone back on the base… it had been on the ground for about 10 years and some descendants wanted it fixed.

I visited the grave of John Quincy Adams today! Not the John Quincy Adams we all know and love but when I saw the name on this monument I couldn’t help but stop and take a photo!

John Quincy Adams was born on September 12th 1842 to Reverend Hiram Adams and his wife Elizabeth (Staat) Adams in New Berlin, New York. He moved to Michigan some time between 1855 and 1860. He joined the 8th Michigan Infantry on August 9th 1861 and was discharged on disability on April 6th 1862. And died on November 12th 1927 of heart trouble brough on by years of Rheumatism.

Oddly enough there were two men named John Quincy Adams in company A of the 8th Michigan infantry. Which brings me to the point of this post… is there anyone in your family that was named after someone famous or important in American history?

For instance I have an 2x great uncle named Benjamin Franklin Frost and a 3x great uncle named George Washington Frost.

Well… I’ve got some height issues… apparently my math wasn’t mathing when I came down and looked at this one a month and a half ago. I suppose it’s time to buy those extensions now…

A few months ago I dug the base out of the ground for this headstone, reset it and treated it with D/2…. It was so dirty and the inscription is slightly worn so it is difficult to read… so today I took my kids over and tried to shine a mirror across the face to see if we could read it a little better.

If you think you can make out the words post what you see in the comments below!

Im gonna start the repair work on this stone some time in the next two weeks. The previous repair was done with materials that really aren’t the best for repairing headstones. But his repair saved the stone long enough for me to be able to do it better.
