A second-alarm fire at a house on South River Road shut down a stretch of the road Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters had the blaze under control by 2:38 p.m.

A second-alarm fire at a house on South River Road Tuesday afternoon displaced two adult residents and their three pets, according to the Salem Fire Department. The department estimates that the fire caused $400,000 worth in damage to the home.
