Catherine Blake is another of the fantastic speakers our campers will get to meet next week. From her website:

"As founder of The Institute for Executive Women, her vision is to provide programs and opportunities to encourage, educate and connect women leaders. The institute was founded to provide a tent for women to gather, learn from each other, and develop others. The Executive Roundtable, Women’s Edition, Women’s Power Breakfast and Annual Leadership Conference will deliver on this vision.

Previously, Ms. Blake founded TechWomen | TechGirls, a program of The New Hampshire Tech Council for STEM programs, MarketPlace Connection, a ministry to raise the bar for ethics and integrity in the workplace, and Sales Protocol International, a consultancy focused on sales and marketing professional services and training. Ms. Blake has a corporate background serving in FORTUNE 500 companies before advancing to start-ups and eventually launching her own company.

Catherine is a graduate of The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Georgia. She moved to New England to attend college and received her Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in Business Administration from Pine Manor College. While working full-time, she burned the midnight oil and received a Graduate Certificate in Administration (C.S.S.) from Harvard Extension School, part of Harvard University’s Division of Continuing Education. Catherine has served as an adjunct professor in sales and marketing at The University of New Hampshire’s Peter T. Paul College of Business & Economics where she founded The Center for Sales Excellence delivering sales leadership programs for undergraduate students. She is a corporate trainer, certified Dale Carnegie instructor, further refined by The Protocol School of Washington and The Emily Post Institute.

A strong believer in contributing to her community, Ms. Blake’s volunteerism has included board of director positions for The Harvard Alumni Association, Boys & Girls Club, Girl’s Inc., New Hampshire High Tech Council, and The New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Catherine received the Outstanding Women in Business Award from The New Hampshire Business Review to “celebrate women who have truly excelled, not only in their professional lives, but as leaders and role models.”

She also is an advisor for the Savannah State chapter of Public Relations Student Society of America. Very impressive!

Here is another of the accomplished creators our students will get to hear from at this year's camp. From his website:

"Jarrad Henderson is a four time Emmy-award winning video producer who has also received accolades for his diverse body of work as a photojournalist and filmmaker.

After graduating from Arizona State University in 2007 with a degree in photography, Henderson worked in multiple roles, from 7th grade U.S. history teacher to an Apple retail specialist, before eventually returning to school to pursue a master’s in journalism at the University of Missouri as a Thurgood Marshall Fellow. His passion and talent for storytelling soon earned him a staff position with the Detroit Free Press, Michigan’s largest media company, where he worked from 2011 to 2014 as a photographer. For his excellence in the field of photojournalism, Henderson was named the 2014 Multimedia Photographer of the Year by the Michigan Press Photographer Association.

After leaving Detroit to work as a video producer at Virginia Tech, Jarrad returned to journalism in 2016, accepting a position at USA Today, where he currently works as a Senior Multimedia Producer in the Investigations and Enterprise Video unit.

Since joining USA Today, Henderson was also honored as a Livingston Award for Young Journalists Excellence in National Reporting Finalist in 2017, International Reporting Finalist in 2020 and was the National Association of Black Journalists’ (NABJ) Salute to Excellence Award Winner for video in 2018 and 2019.

Recognized for being a forward-thinking, internet savvy, digital media and video production expert, Henderson helps others pursue their dreams of becoming visual storytellers through his roles as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies, as the Academic Representative of the National Association of Black Journalists’ Board of Directors and as a national speaker at various conferences including SXSW Edu, the Online News Association and SRCCON. Henderson's latest passion is helping train more photographers and videographers of color via The Obsidian Project."

You should check out his site. His work is amazing!

We are SO excited to meet our students for this year's camp and even more excited for THEM to get to meet our presenters. Here's one of the dynamic people they will get to know:

"Wanda S. Lloyd is a retired newspaper editor and former chair and associate professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications at Savannah State University. She also is a professional guest lecturer in the Multimedia Journalism Program at Georgia Southern University.

In 2020 Lloyd published two books. She is author of the memoir,
"COMING FULL CIRCLE: From Jim Crow to Journalism," and she is co-editor (with novelist Tina McElroy Ansa) of "MEETING AT THE TABLE: African American Women Write on Race, Culture and Community."

Lloyd's journalism career included editing roles at seven daily newspapers, including The Washington Post and USA Today. She retired from daily journalism in 2013 as executive editor of the Montgomery Advertiser in Alabama.

She was the founding executive director of the Freedom Forum Diversity Institute at Vanderbilt University, a program to train non-traditional students for professional newsroom careers. She was a fellow of the Management Training Center at Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Business. In 2019 Lloyd was inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame.

In retirement Lloyd is a frequent speaker on issues of race and culture, and she writes articles for news organizations, including
The Washington Post. She is a mentor, editor and supporter of young journalists and emerging non-fiction writers.

She earned a BA degree in English at Spelman College, on whose Board of Trustees she served for almost 20 years. In 2016,
Spelman awarded her the honorary Doctor of Humane Letters."

Note: Lloyd and her co-editor and longtime friend McElroy Ansa are about to launch a new podcast, "Two Old Chicks."
