With the Mekons catching their collective breath after their whirlwind European and US tours, we thought this would be the perfect time to premiere a NEW piece of art from Freakons. Lest you forget. Freakons are the unholy union of Freakwater and Mekons (hey, it's better than "Meekwater", as Jon would say) and they released their eponymous album Freakons on Fluff and Gravy Records back in 2021.

Today we bring to you the official video for "Phoebe Snow", from that very album. Edited by Jon Langford, this video finds Freakons looking a bit bonkers wandering around the Beaches of Gary Indiana in animal heads made by Catherine Irwin. The multipart musical saga, written by Catherine, is about the fictional character, Phoebe Snow, created in the first decade of the 1900s to advertise the Lackawanna Rail line's use of Anthracite instead of bituminous coal. Phoebe's white gloves were as white as snow after riding the line. The singer, Phoebe Snow took her name from the original. Perhaps the woodland creatures in the video are joyously happy for the anthracite's lack of black smoke, but it was probably just a dream Catherine had to see the band as woodland and stream creatures, including a Kentucky Mussel.
