Boot Scrap

Today marks six years of Boot Scrap.

Usually I put together a compilation of the projects we’ve worked on the last twelve months. But this year it feels right to celebrate the people who have been part of Boot Scrap over the past six years.

I especially want to thank Blair, Garion, Sam, Trevor, Neal, Chris, Chase, Fitz, Nolan, Bobby, Jakob, Ava, Lloyd, Brinker, Sophia, Spooky and many other partners + collaborators not pictured. Every project we’ve made together has a piece of you inside it. Thank you for giving so much of yourselves to Boot Scrap over the years.

While writing this, I felt a little part of me wishing we were celebrating something a little more exciting than just time passing. But the more I thought about it, the more I could feel all of me feeling extremely grateful and lucky.

Lucky to have crossed paths with so many incredible people. Lucky to work alongside them. And lucky that this little idea became the way I get to engage with the world.

Thank you to everyone who’s given their time, talent, and trust to Boot Scrap over the last six years.

Happy birthday, Boot Scrap.

We invited Roger Shew and Isabelle Shepherd over to take a bit of a victory lap for the first edition of Boot Scrap Convos.

These two have spent decades advocating for Wilmington’s environment, and there were some real wins in the past year or so worth celebrating.

Heard yesterday that is closing down, and it got us reminiscing about the early days of Boot Scrap because so much of our beginning is intertwined with that place.

Back in 2020, and I had just started Boot Scrap and we were really just trying to make stuff and figure out how to be helpful. was managing Palate at the time, and for some reason he really believed in what we were doing.

Looking back at our books last night, I realized that 7 of our first 11 paid jobs were for Palate - mostly just making little videos about the food truck and the events they were putting on. Jeremy really just let us run around and create. He was always throwing welcoming events and bringing people together, which gave us so many opportunities to shoot and experiment during those formative Boot Scrap days.

Palate really became the clubhouse for us, we spent so much time there - hanging out, shooting videos, eating the insanely good food + and the crew were making, meeting people, and talking ideas.

There’s something really special about that season of Boot Scrap - before we knew what we were doing, when everything was just scrappy and felt exciting and possible.

Sad to see Palate go. Really grateful for the role it played in our little corner of Wilmington and really grateful to Jeremy and everybody there who made it feel like home for a while.
