Arabutã World Music is an independent record label founded by Michael Anthony Lahue to empower independent artists in Brazil and around the world.
“Arabutã” is an indigenous Tupi word meaning “Brazilwood”, the tree Brazil was named after. The composer Antonio Carlos Jobim once said, “My entire ouvre is inspired by the Atlantic Rainforest…. Brazil is the only country in the world named after a tre

We have to be proud of that.” He also emphasized the importance of reforestation, “It’s high time we started planting forests, reconstructing a bit of our Atlantic Forest, the most beautiful place in the world, with the largest variety of wildlife, of fauna, medicinal herbs, everything. We have to make an effort to preserve our Atlantic Forest.” The Atlantic Rainforest, a UNESCO Bioshpere Reserve, has been reduced to less than 8% of its original size. Wangari Maathai (1940-2011), the 2004 Nobel Peace Price winner and the founder of the Green Belt Movement, encouraged us to gather support for this project of reforestation in Brazil. Therefore a percentage of all sales generated by Arabutã Records will be invested in the reforestation of the Atlantic Rainforest. Today reforestation is not just an inspirational idea but a necessity for our future survival on Planet Earth. The time has come for us to join in community as we strengthen our sense of oneness with each other and with Nature. Arabutã Records is a call to those who value Brazilian music and the natural beauty embodied by the country of Brazil. “Arabutã” é uma palavra Tupi que significa “Pau-Brasil”, a árvore que deu o nome ao Brasil. O compositor Antonio Carlos Jobim disse, “Toda minha obra é inspirada na Mata Atlântica…. O Brasil é o único país do mundo com nome de árvore. A gente tem que se orgulhar disso.” Ele também ressaltou a importância do reflorestamento, “Já está na hora da gente plantar mato, reconstruir um pouco da nossa floresta Atlântica, que é a coisa mais linda do mundo, o lugar que tem mais variedade de bicho, de planta, de remédio, de tudo. A gente tem que fazer força para ter essa Mata Atlântica aí.” A Mata Atlântica, designada como Reserva da Biosfera pela UNESCO, tem sido reduzido a menos que 8% de sua extensão original. Wangari Maathai (1940-2011), Laureada Nobel de 2004 e fundadora do “Green Belt Movement”, nos encorajou a conseguir apoio para este projeto de reflorestamento no Brasil. Portanto uma porcentagem das vendas geradas pela Arabutã Records será investida no reflorestamento da Mata Atlântica. Hoje reflorestamento não é apenas uma idéia inspiradora mas uma necessidade pela nossa futura sobrevivência no Planeta Terra. Está na hora de nós unirmos em comunidade enquanto fortalecemos o nosso senso de unidade com um ao outro e com a Natureza.
