Guess the 80’s movie we’re watching:

A 6 year-old, white orphan boy from the barrio is being raised (collectively) by his loving community. An angry woman from an non-accredited adoption agency shows up and pressures the boy into agreeing to be placed with a family that is more “his kind” in the Midwest. Once he joins his adoptive family, they begin acting erratically and are emotionally abusive, cutting him off from his friends and family back home. The boy runs away, trying to make his way back to New York. But along the way, he’s abducted by two carnies who paint him and force him to perform in a cage. Eventually, his friends find him and rescue him.
