Al Barlevy received a cease and desist letter, signed by LBCC Board Counsel and sent on behalf of the Board of Trustees, requesting Barlevy to refrain from making any comments alleging that any Board members are antisemitic, which he claims he has never done.

The Viking reached out to LBCC’s head of PR Stacey Toda for interviews with any of the board members, President Mike Munoz or herself, but was denied due to the legal nature of the matter. Toda sent a written, emailed statement instead.

A self-described Zionist received a cease and desist notice, via email, on Aug. 6 on behalf of the LBCC Board of Trustees to “refrain from making any further knowingly false and defamatory statemen…

OPINION: LBCC students are being ticketed $74 for backing into parking spots at LAC and TTC, even when both license plates are visible. With “Head In Only” signs posted only at structure entrances, unclear signage is costing students money they can’t afford.

LBCC’s “Head In Only” parking requirement has created a citation issue that could have been prevented, one that could be solved with clearer signage, updated enforcement practices, and policies that reflect the truth about real student life and actual safety needs.

A PVC tube sculpture of unknown origin sits upon a boulder behind the LAC M Building.

Interviews with the art department and a local resident gave no answers, as anyone could be behind the sculpture, from students to local residents.

After being shown a picture of the sculpture and saying it was not made in the campus’ labs, the art department’s Instructional Associate, Matthew Segotta, quoted British-Irish painter Francis Bacon, saying “the job of the artist is to always deepen the mystery.”

Using emergency aid, a one-time $150 disbursement has been disbursed to over 3,000 students who are on SNAP.

The disbursement comes after the government shutdown, aiming to offset its impact as many students on SNAP did not receive their benefits, except during a brief window of time on Nov. 9.

Applicable students can expect to receive their $150 through BankMobile or directly to their linked bank by Wednesday.

LBCC’s final Sip N’ Science of the semester brought students together for hands-on soil microscopy, Indigenous science insights, and community learning.

Hosted by Nicholas Rajen, a natural resources specialist and member of the Navajo nation and Kinyaa’áanii Diné/East Indian, this workshop showed that science is for everyone. Participants were able to test and view a variety of soils from different environments and analyze the living organisms in the soil.

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, many LBCC students reflected on what they are grateful for during the holiday season, expressing appreciation for the friends they’ve made on campus, resources available to students, and self-improvement.

“One thing I’m thankful for is friends, honestly, because I think community is really important, especially in the era where everybody wants to be so independent. I think it’s really important to have people around you that you know you can trust and you can always turn to in a time of need,” said LBCC student Jaden Jones.

The debut of the play “Rough Magic” on Thursday showcased a mythical, magical adventure that invites you to step inside, forget the outside world, and simply enjoy.

This show is vibrant, funny, heartfelt and filled with theatrical imagination.

The play will continue this weekend, having a 7:30 p.m. show today, and a 2:00 p.m. show on Sunday. All performances will be held at the Bob and Barbara Ellis Auditorium at LAC.

The final play of the semester at LBCC “Rough Magic” will debut today at 7:30 p.m. at the Bob and Barbara Ellis Auditorium and will run until Sunday.

"Rough Magic" blends the worlds of Shakespeare with the setting of New York City in the year 2003, highlighting the story of the makeshift trio of Melanie, a young magician yet to embrace her powers, Chet, a high school lifeguard dragged into drama by chance, and Caliban from "The Tempest" as they embark on a perilous adventure to defeat Caliban’s father, a mad sorcerer named Prospero.

The previous production “Inherit the Wind” drew parallels with current events, but this production is more whimsical in nature.

“Theatre is where the veil is still the thinnest, and sometimes, you just wanna bring people joy,” Director Eric Lauritzen said.

Artists who volunteered to paint emergency boxes at LBCC’s Liberal Arts Campus over the summer got the opportunity to talk about their work during a guided walking tour on Nov. 4.

“We must return to our roots in order to move forward with power. Our survival isn’t just physical. It’s cultural, it’s spiritual, it’s ancestral. It is a declaration to carry our past forward with pride,” said ASB rep. of arts JB Brown on the SAGE Scholars’ box design.

OPINION: LBCC employees did not receive proper training to respond to an active immigration raid. Depending on an employee’s position, training was different, but an emailed powerpoint presentation and two optional Zoom webinars are not sufficient.

Although procedures were emailed, training was not mandatory. The school should have offered training on what to do if ICE showed up during August’s College Day or during September’s Flex Day, which were mandatory for full-time faculty. The first Flex Day of 2026 has the opportunity to provide in-person and involved training for employees.
