Ayos! Palawenyo! Naway maging mas malakas ang boses ng Palawan sa mga importanteng usapin at mabigyan pansin ang mga suliranin.

Inihalal bilang bagong Deputy Majority Floor Leader ng 20th Congress si Palawan 3rd district Congressman Gil. Acosta Jr.

Ito ang inanunsyo mismo ni Deputy Majority Floor Leader Sandro Marcos nitong Lunes (July 28) sa Batasang Pambansa.

Masaya namang tinanggap ni Acosta Jr. ang panibagong hamon at nangakong susuporta sa adbokasiya ng administrasyon tungo sa pagbabago.

"Sa bagong tungkuling ito, asahan ho natin na lalo pang mapapalakas ang tinig ng mamamayan sa mga mahahalagang usapin sa bansa. Kaisa ho kami sa panibagong yugto ng inyong paglilingkod at patuloy na sumusuporta sa inyong adbokasiya para sa makabuluhang pagbabago." Puerto Princesa reporter Redempto Anda traveled by boat, car, and motorbike to the remote southern tip of Palawan, uncovering a dramatic struggle between Mariahangin’s indigenous community and San Miguel Corporation. Trouble began when SMC offered "financial aid" to convince families to relocate from the island. About half of the 200 families accepted payments between P75,000 and P400,000—some receiving only partial sums. But many now regret leaving the strategically located 38-hectare island near Sabah, which has become valuable real estate.

Despite SMC’s denials of current interest and claims of “confusion,” the company is building a massive luxury resort on a neighboring island, fueling locals’ concerns. Now, fewer than 90 families remain on Mariahangin. Through vigilant 24/7 beach watches, they seek not just to defend their land, but to protect a way of life.
