Would you take her back?🤔
Tony used to wake up by 4:30am. Not because he was happy about the day, but because…
If he did not, he would miss the bus and be late for work and lateness meant ₦1,000 deducted from his already tiny salary.
He worked in an office in Lagos where he is paid ₦30,000 a month. By the 15th of each month, his account balance read ₦748.00.
He does not talk much and even when he talks, it is with Bolaji, his girlfriend of 2 years. She does not have a job but she runs her own food business from home.
Tony always looked calm outside. But inside, he was drowning. 😞
One lunch break, his colleague at work showed him a trading app and said, “See o, I just made $25 while waiting for this printer to work.”
Tony laughed like he did not care. He said “Bobo forget all that. Na just luck you get today. No be scam e go be las las”.
But that night… Tony downloaded the same app. 😂
He did not tell Bolaji.
He started with YouTube tutorials, trading with demo accounts until he felt he "understood it."
Then one day, he deposited ₦22,000, which was all his savings.
He lost everything in three days.
He knew how Bolaji will look at him so he did not tell her about it.
The second time, he borrowed ₦8,000 from a friend. Blew it again.
Bolaji noticed he was always on his phone, always moody.
Then he told her what has been happening. Told her about the trading, about the losses. She was quiet for a while, then said:
"Tony, I know you want money. But not like this. Not with things that do not work."
She was not angry like Tony thought she would. It was more like disappointment. 😔
She took a loan of ₦80,000 and gave it to Tony to start a food delivery service so that he can finally leave the tiring job. She said it would keep him busy and make real money.
He accepted. But his heart was still in the charts. Baba don watch rich traders on YouTube as dem dey flex. He wants to be like them. 😩
He would trade early in the morning before deliveries and also at night after washing dishes.
And almost every time… he lost money.
Then came the worst night.
He had ₦27,000 left from the money Bolaji gave him. That money was supposed to cover groceries and fuel.
He used it to trade.
The market turned on him. 📉
He watched it dip to zero.
How will he run deliveries tomorrow like this?
He did not eat that night. The next day he could not even look at himself in the mirror.
Bolaji asked him and he told her.
She was very angry but there were no fights. No screaming.
Later that day she called her friend and started packing her things.
Tony was begging and promising to change but she said enough is enough.
And she left.
No goodbye hug. No promise to come back.
Just silence. And the regrets of a man who is failing at everything.
The break up affected him. Both emotionally and financially. Bolaji always supported him but now, he has no backup.
Depression hit hard. 💔
He stopped taking client orders. Stopped calling friends. Sometimes, he did not bathe for 2–3 days.
Out of hunger and desperation, he joined some bricklayers in his neighbourhood. He is always tired and having pains but he had no choice. 😓
Every night, he would stare at the ceiling and whisper, "God, why am I working hard and nothing to show?"
One night, around 2am, with his face wet with tears, he opened his laptop again.
Not to trade. To learn. From scratch.
He studied price action, market structure, and emotions.
He studied his mistakes like a textbook. He stopped trying to flip ₦10k into ₦1 million. He stopped risking all his money on single trades.
And slowly… he was winning trades consistently.
Although the profits were not much, it gave him hope. 🙏
His $50 account became $55.
Later on, $140.
Later on, $600.
He stopped bricklaying and trade full time. After about 8 months he has $12,432 on his live account.
He had done it. Alone.
No mentors. No expensive courses. No one cheering him on. Just pain, trial, error, perseverance, and purpose.
Today, now in 2025, Tony trades full time. Lives in his own apartment.
He sends money to his mum monthly. He funded his younger brother’s admission into UNILAG.
Then this last weekend, he gisted that Bolaji messaged him.
What happened was that Tony recently helped a friend who also knew Bolaji. The friend hailed him on her status and Tony figured that must have been why Bolaji was messaging. Because why else will she just message after 3 years like that.
He stared at the message for 20 minutes. No reply. Just memories.
He replied to her greeting and they chatted. She said she is still struggling and would like to return back to her true love. 😂
