NEWS: City Manager responds to TBO comments
City Manager Shawna Burkhart says she’ll work to fix what she called a “serious communication breakdown” between her office and members of The Border Organization, after group members told City Council they were frustrated over a canceled meeting and lack of communication.

Burkhart said she’s looking into the alleged canceled meeting and will reschedule a session “next week, hopefully.” She also noted she’s upgrading the city’s phone and voicemail systems to ensure messages aren’t missed.

“We certainly want to have a good relationship with all entities,” Burkhart told The 830 Times.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Burkhart also praised city crews for their “tremendous” work clearing Arundo cane from San Felipe Creek and announced Halloween trick-or-treating at City Hall.

One commissioner wasn't a fan of speed bumps in his precinct.

"Government has three things to offer. They can give you what you want, they can give you what they think is in your best interest or they can give you nothing, and I have a problem with the last two, so I’m going to go ahead with the first one and give them what they want, even though I think it’s a bad idea,” said County Commissioner Pct. 3 Fernando Garcia.

Despite his misgivings, he voted yes to support his constituents.
