📢 Honoring Black History Month: A Time to Reflect, Educate, and Celebrate ✨
February marks the start of Black History Month, a time dedicated to recognizing the profound contributions, achievements, and resilience of Black individuals throughout history.
But how did it begin? 🤔
Black History Month traces its origins to 1926, when historian Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History launched Negro History Week. They chose the second week of February to honor the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, both instrumental figures in the fight for freedom. By 1976, the celebration had expanded to Black History Month, gaining national recognition.
Why is it important? 🌍
It’s more than just history—it’s about learning, honoring legacies, and fostering a future of equity, inclusion, and understanding. From groundbreaking inventors to civil rights icons and modern changemakers, Black history is American history.
💡 This month, let’s engage, educate, and elevate these stories. How will you honor Black History Month? Drop your thoughts in the comments! ⬇️
