“SHE’S A BADASS”

SRTN Episode 248 with Katherine Yeske Taylor who began her career as a rock critic in Atlanta in the 1990s, interviewing Georgia musical royalty such as the Indigo Girls, R.E.M., and the Black Crowes while still a teenager. Since then, she has conducted several hundred interviews and contributes regularly to Billboard, Flood, Spin, and American Songwriter, among others. She is a longtime New York City resident and is extremely active in the downtown rock scene.

I've punched the clock on my assignment with the Santiam UniServ Council. I worked in this assignment 9 years, 5 months (the same exact tenure I worked for Madison Teachers in Wisconsin, weird eh?).

I have served between 1900-2500 union members each year including workers in the Greater Albany Public School District, Lebanon Community School District, Jefferson, LBL ESD, Central Linn, Cascade, North Santiam, Santiam Canyon, and Scio. I could tell ya some stories.

I am proud that I have been an organizer, teacher, and fighter for my people. I am proud to be an 'outside voice' calling out bu****it management practices. All my locals are stronger. All my locals seek to create their own destiny. I think I have convinced my locals that not only do they have a role in fixing deep wrongs but they have a DUTY to do so. Greater Albany Public Schools is a prime example. I'll go into that more in an upcoming op-ed in the papers.

I now move to increase worker strength on the campuses of Linn-Benton Community College, Lane CC, Rogue CC, and Umpqua CC.

I love you Santiam UniServ Council. I've been proud to serve.

Give the bosses hell until things improve. Sh*tty working conditions impact kids. Fight and win for the workers and the students. Be like Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're their only hope.
