Health care providers serving Laurens County are in line for more than $5 million from the state's first round of Rural Health Transformation Program awards.
Seven awards totaling $2,704,566 are designated for Laurens County, including $1.46 million to Self Regional Healthcare and six facility awards to Prisma Health. The Presbyterian College School of Pharmacy received $148,920.

Fall is on the calendar at LushAcres Farm in Clinton.
The farm's annual fall festival runs every Saturday in October, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. One $15 gate fee (free for kids 2 and under) covers the corn maze, corn cannons, wagon rides, barnyard animals, the giant slide, jump pad, mini-train, GaGa ball, face painting and more.
Live music every Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., with West End String Band, McKinney Gap, Matt Crisp and Cross Ties Bluegrass Band on the schedule. Add in the pumpkin patch, mums garden, farm market, food and a vendor village full of handmade goods, and it is an easy day trip for the whole family.
Proceeds support Thornwell's work with children and families.

September is National Preparedness Month, and Laurens County Emergency Management Director Sonny Ledda says the lessons of Hurricane Helene still apply.
"Helene showed us that a storm does not have to come ashore in Laurens County to shut it down," Ledda said.
With hurricane season running through Nov. 30, now is a good time to make a family plan, build a kit with water, food, medicine and cash, sign up for local alerts, and protect important papers. Don't forget to check on neighbors, especially older residents living alone.

At the end of May, Kayla Haupfear walked away from 16 years in dentistry to pick up the camera she's been holding since childhood. On July 1 she opened her studio, in Clinton, Haupfear Photography, in the old Makery space on W. Pitts Street.
Portraits, seniors, families, fur babies — and a school photo package priced so parents in Laurens County can actually afford a picture of their kid.
"Parents should be able to afford at least one photo of their child, especially a senior year photo. It just breaks my heart."

Laurens Academy senior Caleb Hardy has been named the Laurens County Touchdown Club player of the week for games played Sept. 4. The H-back and linebacker rushed for 130 yards and two touchdowns, caught two passes for 83 yards and a score, and added five tackles, a tackle for loss, a deflected pass and a fumble recovery in the Crusaders' 44-6 win over Oaktown Academy at Todd Kirk Field.
Hardy will be honored Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Touchdown Club's third meeting of the year, held at noon at The Ridge in Laurens. Former NFL official Rick Patterson of Gaffney is the featured speaker. The public is invited, and tickets are $15 at the door.

🎉 Six years ago this week, the Laurens County Buzz sent out its very first newsletter.
I was convinced I would eventually burn out on it. Six years, thousands of articles and more ribbon cuttings than I can count later, the opposite happened.

$5. $9. That's the whole ask.
Laurens County First Steps has launched "9 to 5 for Early Childhood Literacy," building toward Dolly Parton Day on Sept. 25. Since fall 2023, the program has mailed 28,441 free books to Laurens County children, each one addressed to a child by name.
The books are free to families. They are not free to send.
Give $5, give $9, sponsor a child or challenge a friend to do the same. Details, plus how to enroll a child from birth through age 5, are in the story.
