Hitting the road for Labor Day? Get ready for a pricey fill up.

AAA says the holiday weekend is on track to bring the highest Labor Day gas prices on record. Utah’s average is $4.42 a gallon, compared with $4.14 nationally. The national average has never topped $4 on Labor Day.

Salt Lake City, Ogden and Provo are averaging $4.37 a gallon. In St. George, it’s $4.49.

AAA points to higher crude oil costs amid continued volatility in the Strait of Hormuz.

A Salt Lake City driver says an insurance company initially paid him based on a $1,444 repair estimate after he was rear-ended.

But a second body shop found more than $5,400 in damage.

When Collin Holbrook asked for the difference, he says the insurer initially refused, suggesting some of the damage may have come from another crash.

Holbrook says he had photos showing otherwise.

After the KSL Investigators got involved, the insurer took another look, validated the additional damage and paid roughly $4,000 more.

Utah’s insurance commissioner says drivers should take lots of photos after a crash, get multiple repair estimates and put any appeal to an insurance company in writing.

I heard from someone who got a text that appeared to be from her boss asking her to go buy gift cards for a client meeting.

It’s a scam — and it’s still making the rounds.

Back-to-school shopping can get expensive fast — and where you shop makes a huge difference. 🎒✏️📓

For the seventh year, we took the same school-supply list to several retailers to see who had the best prices.

🛒 Walmart: $30.28 — cheapest complete basket
🎯 Target: $39.88
🛒 Smith’s: $48.43
📦 Amazon: $66.23 — 119% more than Walmart

Dollar General came in at $27, but we couldn’t complete the list there.

We also found shrinkflation, a one-cent Amazon water bottle with up to $90 shipping, and a $5 backpack that suddenly became $30 at checkout.

The lesson for parents? Shop around. It can literally cut your school-supply bill in half.

The KSL Investigators shopped the same back-to-school supply list at five retailers. The cheapest complete basket cost just over $30, while the most expensive topped $66.

Imagine paying your TV bill — only to be told you need to pay it again.

A Magna woman had the receipts proving she paid DirecTV, but AT&T still demanded more than $300 and threatened to send her to collections.

When she called for help, each company pointed the finger at the other.

She decided to Get Gephardt — and after KSL Investigators started asking questions, the balance was finally wiped to zero.

When money is tight, you can spend less — or earn more. A growing number of Utahns are doing both through the resale hustle.

We followed the merchandise trail from retailer returns and storage auctions to thrift stores, online marketplaces and buyers’ homes.

One Utah couple turned storage-unit treasure hunting into a full-fledged business, selling everything from furniture and clothing to vintage artwork. Deseret Industries says donations have increased about 22% in recent years, while the number of shoppers has climbed 26%.

But flipping is not easy money. Broken products, shipping, storage, platform fees, scams and hours of research can quickly erase a profit.

The best advice for beginners: Start with items already sitting in your garage or closet, research what they have actually sold for and count every cost — including your time.
