The ninth Cápsula Pedagógica has a fix. Carmen Reyes walks through four steps for guided research that stays in reach: connect the topic to what students already care about, build in real choice, keep resources accessible, and close with communication instead of just a finished product. In her example, a unit on Mexican food becomes a chance for students to research and then talk about their own favorite dishes.

Somebody out there rebuilt a German program their district had already written off.

Somebody took one section and turned it into four. Somebody talked a middle school into starting German from scratch.

If that somebody is you, we want to read about it.

The Klett World Languages Award for Innovative K-12 German Programs, offered with the American Association of Teachers of German, gives $1,000 to one U.S. school or district that found a way to grow German enrollment, or to build a program where there wasn't one.

The money goes to your school, and your German program decides how to spend it.

Deadline: November 15.

Planning for next year usually starts before the current one wraps, so here's an early look at what's joining the KWL catalog for 26/27.

Giovani Reporter 3 completes the three-volume Italian program. Proyectos, our higher-ed Spanish program, gets a second edition. And Generación AP® returns in a revised edition. All three are on track for June 2027, with more additions still to be announced. Full feature details aren't public yet, so consider this the heads-up rather than the announcement.

A cooking day is fun. A flag project is easy to grade. But if that's where cultural learning stops, students leave the course with souvenirs instead of understanding.

Nathan Lutz's B2S 2026 session tackles how to design intercultural learning that goes deeper and actually sticks, moving past the surface-level activities that fill a period but don't build real cultural competence.
