This past Sunday we raced with Snake River Karters at Glen Morgan Raceway. I was hoping for some redemption from the last race as I came close to a win but came up a little short so I was determined.
We ran the practice session and the kart felt great! We went to the top of the board at P1 so I knew we were setup for a good day. At the start of the heat race I made contact with my teammate Tyler after some hard racing but managed to stay out in front and keep the lead. I notice the right rear of my kart started to vibrate some as the race went on. I crossed the finish line in first at the checkered flag but on the cool down lap going through the hairpin turn my right rear wheel broke off and had to limp the kart back to the pit area on 3 wheels. We found out that the right rear wheel hub broke most likely due to the contact at the start but it’s no biggie. Luckily Andy Seeseman was there and he ran home to get a new wheel hub for us. We got it installed with plenty of time before the start of the main event. Unfortunately I got a rules violation penalty with the wheel not being on the kart and not going through the scales properly after the heat race which was our fault therefore I was going to start 5th in the main event which is no biggie, I felt like I had a good kart to go to the front.
I lined up on the inside of row 3 at the start of the main event and was third at the end of lap 1. The kart felt great and I was being patient keeping the leaders in front of me. Gage was able to get by me which put me back to fourth as I was still being patient. All 4 of us were nose to tail. Marc was the leader but Tyler was able to get to his inside and that allowed Gage and myself to also get by Marc. A couple of laps later Gage was able to get under Tyler for the lead which put Tyler a little off line and that also allowed me to get by Tyler for second. At this point I was behind Gage waiting for the right opportunity to pass. I looked low on Gage going into the hairpin turn on one lap to just test it out but thought better of it and fell back in line. Two laps later I had a run on Gage coming out of the kink and dove low going into the hairpin turn as we were side by side for the lead going through the hairpin making sure I gave Gage enough room on my outside. I was able to get to the lead exiting the hairpin. Tyler eventually was able to get past Gage for second and closed in on me. Tyler stayed glued to my rear bumper as we started to pull away from everyone. Tyler ran me clean the rest of the race and stayed on my rear bumper right to the checkered flag where I finished first and he finished 2nd. A great day for a couple of teammates. As we were going across the scales, it looked like Gage wasn’t feeling good so I immediately went to check on him. Gage ran a great race and he toughed it out to still get on the podium. My second career win and a great day for M3 Racing with my teammate Tyler finishing second as he also ran a great race. Marc was the early leader and ended up 4th which is great for him seeing it’s his first year in JR2.
This was my best day yet at the track making it a clean sweep of the day being first in practice, qualifying, heat race, and main event. I want to thank Jeremy, Wyatt, Scott, and my teammates at M3 Racing for being there for me. I also want to thank Andy Seeseman for driving all the way home and back with the new rear hub. Thank you to Doug Fleming for the great motors. Thank you to my mom and dad for getting me to the track for the countless hours of practice to make me a better driver. Thank you to Snake River Karters and all of the officials and volunteers for putting on a great event despite the hot temperatures and the smoke in the air.
This gives me great momentum going into my next race at Kart Idaho this weekend. Look forward to seeing everyone there!
