Did the mechanic accidentally cause this, or is it just bad timing?

I have a 2013 Nissan Maxima with about 143,000 miles. I originally brought it in because I had EVAP-related codes (P0456 and P0441), and the V***r Canister Vent Solenoid Valve was replaced.

After the repair, I drove the car home with no issues. The next morning, however, the check engine light came back on. This time the code was P1800 (VIAS Solenoid Valve).

The shop scanned it and noted that they couldn't access the system with their scan tool and suggested it may need dealer-level diagnostics.

My question is: could this new code be related to the work that was just performed, or is it more likely a coincidence that another issue showed up right afterward?

I'm not looking to point fingers—just trying to understand what might have happened and what my next step should be. Any insight from Nissan owners, technicians, or anyone who's dealt with a P1800 code would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Did I get a fair deal on this brake job?

I recently had the front brakes done on my 2013 Toyota Camry and paid about $418 total for new front pads, rotors, labor, and fees. I don't have much experience with brake work, so I'm curious what those of you who know cars think.

Does this seem like a reasonable price for the work performed? Also, is this a repair that a beginner with basic tools could realistically tackle at home, or is it better left to a professional?

The main reason I'm asking is because I'm considering taking the car back to the same shop for a transmission issue. Before I do that, I'd like to get a sense of whether they've treated me fairly so far.

Thanks in advance for any advice, opinions, or experiences you can share!

Looking for some advice from people who know more about brakes than I do.

I started hearing a noise when applying the brakes the other night, so I took my 2005 Saab 9-3 to a shop to have the brake pads checked and replaced. After the inspection, they came back with an estimate of around $1,100 for front pads, rear pads and rotors, plus a brake fluid service.

The problem is that I don't have that kind of money available right now. I do some basic maintenance myself (like oil changes), but I've always been a little hesitant to tackle brake work because it's such an important safety item.

For those with experience:

Does this estimate seem reasonable?
Are there any parts of this repair that could safely wait?
Is brake work something a beginner can realistically learn to do at home with the right tools and guidance?

I'm not looking to cut corners on safety—just trying to understand my options and make the best decision for my budget.

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

How’d I do on this repair bill?

Had some work done on my 2007 Jeep Commander, but since getting it back I've noticed a few things that don't seem right. The steering feels a little loose, it pulls slightly to the left, and the steering wheel moves around when I hit bumps. I also noticed an issue with the CV axle boot that has me scratching my head.

Maybe I'm overthinking it, maybe I'm not—but something just feels off. Before I head back to the shop, I figured I'd ask for some opinions from people who know more about this stuff than I do.

Just trying to learn and make sure everything was done correctly. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Just a guy looking for some tire advice. 😅

First, thanks to everyone who pointed out that I accidentally left my personal information visible in my previous post. Not my finest moment, but I appreciate the heads-up and got it fixed.

Now onto the tires...

I drive a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek Touring and I'm trying to decide between a couple of tire options. These won't be my daily-driver tires—I have another set of wheels with street tires for that. These will be my "adventure" setup.

My typical use:
• Long road trips
• Mountain driving
• Snow and winter conditions
• Forest service roads and easy dirt roads
• No hardcore off-roading

I've received quotes for:
• BFGoodrich Trail-Terrain T/A
• Nexen Roadian ATX

For anyone who has experience with either of these, I'd love to hear your thoughts on:
• Snow performance
• Road noise
• Ride comfort
• Tread life
• Overall value

What would you choose for this kind of use? Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

Did I get rooked by this mechanic?

$695 to replace the drive belt(s?) and tensioner on my 2014 cx5 with 155k miles. Did I pay out the nose or is this reasonable?

Oil Pan Replacement Cost

Hey everyone! Hit a pothole with my 2012 VW Jetta yesterday and it’ll start, drive for about 30 seconds, and then stop. The mechanic quoted me this for the repairs, is this a fair price? Just want to make sure before I do anything.

Got quoted (900$ CAD )for an exhaust repair on a 2001 Toyota Corolla. Fair price?

The front pipe is split into just after the bend going down to the centre pipe and the muffler needed to be replaced due to it rusting out. I’m just curious as they seem to be overcharging for materials for example I can’t find a front pipe anywhere costing more than 120$ but they came up with almost double the cost.

2009 Toyota Corrolla LE 1.8L Repair Quote

My car has had some slight handling issues. I got a quote from a mechanic nearby which I will attach as a picture. I had a couple of questions regarding the quote and pricing.

How dangerous is it to continue driving the vehicle in this condition. I have been driving it for a few months with this issue. Handling is off but it never veers to far off course.

Do all of the things in the quote need fixed immediately. The mechanic made it seem like this all needed done at once and there wasn't one issue that was more important than the others.

The price for all the repairs listed is right around $3,000. Is this a reasonable price for this type of repair? I will attach an itemized list that I was given with pricing on everything. I don't have that amount of money available. I can take out a loan or balance transfer if needed but I'd prefer to pay less for the more important issues.

Any advice is greatly appreciated
