Proud of the team today as we executed one of the largest small business advocacy webinars on tariffs to date!

We brought together a powerhouse group including the U.S. Senate Small Business Committee, Small Business Majority, The Joint Center, Distilled Spirits Council of the United States, U.S. Women Grocers, and the National Minority Supplier Development Council for a timely and powerful discussion on how current tariff policies are impacting small business owners—especially those in underserved communities.

📢 NEW TARIFFS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW 🇺🇸💼

President Trump has declared a national emergency due to foreign trade practices, implementing new tariffs to strengthen the U.S. economy and protect American workers. Here’s what’s happening:

🔹 10% Tariff on All Countries – Effective April 5, 2025, on imports to address trade imbalances.
🔹 Higher Tariffs for Largest Trade Deficits – Countries with significant trade imbalances will face individualized reciprocal tariffs starting April 9, 2025.
🔹 Exceptions Apply – Certain goods like pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and energy resources are exempt from these tariffs.

💡 Why?
➡️ The U.S. trade deficit in goods exceeded $1.2 trillion in 2024—an unsustainable crisis.
➡️ Other countries impose higher tariffs on U.S. exports—India (70% on U.S. cars), EU (10%), while the U.S. only charges 2.5%.
➡️ Counterfeit goods, tax disparities, and foreign manufacturing have hurt U.S. jobs and industries.

🛠 What’s the Goal?
✅ Bring manufacturing back to the U.S.
✅ Protect American workers & industries from unfair trade practices.
✅ Reduce dependence on foreign supply chains for critical goods.

Oh, the irony! First, President Trump dismantles the Department of Education, claiming it’s ineffective. Now, he’s handing over the $1.6 trillion student loan portfolio to the Small Business Administration (SBA)—the same folks who brought us the flawless rollout of PPP loans. And just to keep things interesting, he’s slashing SBA staff by 43%. Because who needs experienced personnel when managing trillions in debt?

The ability to can today… I cannot. I gave my last loan to God anyway so it’s above me now. 🤷🏾‍♀️

✨ Celebrating Women’s History Month by honoring a true legend—Ingrid Gavin-Parks! ✨

From the halls of Congress to the hearts of everyone she meets, Ingrid is the definition of a leader, mentor, and champion for women. 👏🏾👩🏾‍💼💖

I’ll never forget when she took a chance on me as a wide-eyed 1L fellow 🏛️📚—nervous, ambitious, and ready to soak up knowledge like a sponge. 🧽😂 Ingrid had this magical ability to connect with everyone—whether a senior policymaker or the intern running for coffee ☕—making every person feel seen, heard, and valued. 💡✨

Did I mention that my first day I was three hours late 🤭

And let’s talk about her support for women! 💪🏾👩🏾‍🤝‍👩🏽 If there’s a “Most Likely to Write a Reference Letter for You” Award, Ingrid wins EVERY TIME. 🏆😂 She’s been my cheerleader, confidante, and occasional “let’s rethink this” coach when my career plans got a little…creative. (Yes, there was a brief phase where I thought I could be a professional juggler. 🤹🏾‍♀️ Spoiler: I cannot. 😂)

Her impact reminds me of Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” 🙏🏾

God puts the right people in our lives at the right time, and Ingrid has been that guiding light for me. 💡💖

So today, I celebrate this phenomenal woman—her leadership, her heart, and her endless support. 🎉 May we all have an Ingrid in our lives, and more importantly, may we strive to BE an Ingrid for others. 🌟
