Some fast strumming to wake me up
A place for questions and discussions on playing and recording acoustic/electric nylon guitars
Operating as usual
Some fast strumming to wake me up
New practice session. Another work-in-progress...
Short video of a live performance earlier this year.
Part of my nylon piece. At the Pacific Ocean, Venice Beach. Using my trusty Kremona Fiesta TLR. Such a cool, slender, ultra-comfortable, light weight, with great tones plugged in to a small Yamaha THR5A amp. Shot on a Zoom 4k stereo video camera. Live.
My latest acoustic amplifier setup...
Yamaha THR3011-A
(2x) Yamaha THR5A
(2X) MXR Reverb
Fishman Aura Spectrum
Close, but no cigar...next guitar....
I have been testing out this Yamaha SLG200N for a while. Trying to get the tone that I like. I ran the signal through a Fishman Tonedeq and a Yamaha THR3011A amplifier . The strings are ...D'Addario Pro Arte EJ45LP (lightly polished). I shot on a Zoom Q2N4K digital video camera with an external mic.

I have been working diligently, experimenting with 2 different pedal effects combinations. Both of the boards that I made are amazing, and quite different from one another.
1. The first board is my go-to effects combo for lovely acoustic sounds. Very analogue and great for nylon string acoustic/electric guitars.
..Fishman Tonedeq with analogue compression, reverb and flanger, plus extra reverb from the MXR Reverb pedal. I use the MXR on either 'Epic', or 'Pad' settings for effects in slow passages.
2. The second board has the Fishman Aura Spectrum has dozens of different acoustic guitar types, which can be downloaded from the Fishman Website Very cutting edge. Great for use with my Yamaha SLG Nylon 'Silent' guitar. I can get some very useable acoustic- sounding tones from these high-tech, non-acoustic pieces of equipment....In addition to the Aura, I added an MXR Carbon Copy, and an MXR Reverb pedal. The Aura has compression and tone controls, and to my ears, does not sound as 'Nylon' as the Tonedeq..In the coming weeks I intend to make a music video to compare the two riggs, using the Yamaha Silent SLG N. Both test will be using a Fishman Loudbox 100 acoustic amp. The SLG is amazing on stage and in small rooms...no dreaded feedback issues because it does not have an acoustic body.
I wonder if any of you have experience with trying to get the loudest (unplugged, quality) sound out of an acoustic nylon guitar. Got to hear the guitar clearly over the background sound volume? In this case, guitar and ocean.
Remastered and reversed! 'House of the Rising Sun! Hope you like it. I used a Kremona Fiesta Thinline through a Loudbox 100 acoustic amplifier. The microphone was a Shure Beta 87A through a TC Helicon Play Acoustic pedal. Shot the video on a Smartphone. I now have the Zoom Q2N-4K stereo video camera...tbc.

Nylon acoustic/electric work-in-progress. Eventually I will have a Triptych of such tunes. Taking my time so the tunes and I can evolve. No rush, tbc...
I used my cheap smartphone and a Yamaha THR-5A to record this video. I am going to get a small vido camera soon. I think I am going to get this camera, which has 2 microphones built-in...Zoom Q2n-4K Handy Video Recorder.

Test for tone using Kremona Verea nylon string guitar, Zoom AC-3, Tascam 24-track digital recorder, Alesis Masterdisc.
Kremona Verea, Zoom Acoustic Creator AC-3, Tascam DP-24SD. This is my dream team (on my limited budget). I am getting such beautiful tones...NYLON, and no hideous Piezo sound (even though Piezo is what I am using on my guitar), without using expensive microphones. Microphones would never work in my home studio...so much noise in LA!! I am probably going to get another Zoom for backup. I already backorder another Tascam. My Tascam is 8 years old and I have used and abused it every day. Maybe it will last forever, but I doubt it. Take care, until the next post with, hopefully a demo recording using this PAD effect. Surfing Guitarist, over and out
Thanks for all of your support in my quest for nylon tone!!! Today for the first time , I am testing the Phantom power out, left and right into the Tascam DP-24SD, using my Kremona Verea nylon string cutaway classical. I am experimenting with the PAD effect on the Zoom AC-3. Sounds so beautiful. I shall make a recording and post on here soon. Thanks, stay tuned!
The best setup I have experimented with is so simple to get the best, most natural nylon guitar recordings.Kremona Verea nylon guitar through Zoom AC-3, to Tascam DP-24SD. Does not sound metallic, nor Piezoish! Can't wait to make some music.
I have been working hard for the last few weeks in search of the best tones. My aim is to make decent recordings of my nylon guitar, without using microphones which does not work for me in my small apartment. The zoom AC-3 is very simple to use and I am going to make a recording using that pedal first.Later on I shall record using the Fishman Aura Spectrum..with MXR Reverb and maybe a little MXR delay too..we shall see...

New video, new tune...'A Walk in the Park', from my latest album, 'Surfing Guitarist.' I play all the instruments, guitars, bass, mandolin, keyboards and voc...
I am constantly testing nylon guitars out and trying to find the best way to get good clean recordings that sound like real nylon strung guitars should...not too Piezoish! Anyone got some info? I had a Godin Multiac which can sound really good recorded direct (no mic). I just didn't like the feel..too much like an electric guitar..nut width too narrow, body too thin, etc.. In addition, I need the guitar to sound awesome unplugged!
