WTKR is the CBS affiliate serving the Hampton Roads area of Virginia, officially known as the Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News DMA. The station is licensed to Norfolk and broadcasts on digital channel 40, but appears on channel 3 (its old analog channel) on digital converter boxes and most cable systems. U.S. President Donald Trump called his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin “extremely productive” but offered no details on any agreement toward a potential ceasefire in the war in Ukraine.

"There's no deal until there's a deal," President Trump told reporters after his 3-hour meeting with Putin.

While Putin acknowledged the human toll of the war in Ukraine, he also said, "We need to eliminate all the primary roots, the primary causes of that conflict."

A 2024 Kill Devil Hills Police Department report gave News 3 more insight into the connection between Henry Hargis, 16, accused in the shooting death of 19-year-old Zane Hughes in the parking lot at the Avalon Pier last month.

Nicole Hassell, Hughes' mother, is adamant that this tragedy could have been prevented. She told News 3 she feels she still isn't getting answers, even after meeting with law enforcement since the shooting and Dare County district attorney on Thursday.

Tropical Storm Erin is now Hurricane Erin!

Erin strengthened on Friday and became the first hurricane in the Atlantic basin this season.

Erin has top sustained winds of 75 mph as it churns westward toward the northeastern Caribbean. Before reaching the Caribbean, the National Hurricane Center expects Erin to take a right turn, which should prevent a direct impact on the islands.
