Venice Afterburn 2025, an official Regional Burning Man event, returned for a weekend of art, music and radical self-expression from Oct. 4-5. The event was an all-day affair on both Saturday and Sunday, held from noon to 10 p.m. at Windward Plaza.

This annual gathering brings the spirit of Black Rock City to the beach, blending the creative energy of Venice with the playful, immersive culture of Burning Man. The event included a display of interactive art installations — including “Nested Heart” by Stephen Reynolds, an honorarium installation fresh from Burning Man 2025 — alongside mutant vehicles and music from a lineup of DJs.

Staff photographer Chris Mortenson checked out the celebration of self-expression and art over the weekend, and captured Venice Afterburn on camera.
