The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has added a new feature to its mobile app:

Parents can now send safety tips directly to the school resource officer assigned to their child’s school. Once submitted, the tip is instantly shared with the officer, their supervisor, and command staff.

A new draft — the Kahleb & Ryleigh Collins Act — could hold child welfare workers civilly and criminally accountable if they ignore credible abuse reports.

The proposal follows the alleged abuse and disappearance of toddler Kahleb Collins and the death of his sister, Ryleigh. It has not been introduced to the Alabama Legislature but would remove certain legal protections for CPS workers.
