I have taken a lot of photos in my life. This is the one I am most proud of.

Dad worked as a clam digger in the bay for most of my life. He adored that bay. From when I was around 5 years old, fishing off the back of his boat while he was on the front, digging to support our family. Dad instilled in me an absolute love for the water. So much so that I have spent countless hours on various boats of my own, starting at age 15, and to this day, my entire career since age 21 has been dedicated to the boating industry.

Dad’s tools on his boat were always clam tongs, occasionally a rake. I can’t recall many instances when Dad wasn’t actively working while on one of his boats. So, it brought me immense joy as I grew older to take Dad out on one of my boats, just to relax and perhaps cast a line using a rod and reel. Something that Dad never did on his own boats.

With decades spent on the water, my Dad never had the opportunity to catch, or even see a Striped Bass in the Great South Bay. For many years, even if you managed to catch one, you couldn’t keep it. They had become so rare that there was a ban on keeping ANY Striped Bass. They were so elusive that for many Baymen on the GSB, they were referred to as “Unicorns.” I vividly remember the first time I took my Dad “Striper Fishing” on one of my boats. I managed to pull in a small one just off Tanner Park. He was genuinely amazed by the catch.

Years passed, and we embarked on numerous trips together. Finally, on one of my boats, my Dad caught his first “keeper” Unicorn. This picture represents that momentous catch. I can’t help but wonder who was more proud that day—Dad for finally catching his first “keeper” or me for being able to help him for a change.

I will miss you Dad. Everything, literally everything good that I am, is because of you. May your heaven be an endless field of “count” clams under calm seas with a perfect sunrise on a beautiful August day. I love you Dad.

I haven’t flown in weeks, thanks to some pranksters in NJ giving legal drone flyers a bad name. Do you think these drones in NJ and now MD, are from foreign agents?

I love it when I check in on a client’s feed to see a video I created is one of its top performers!

Our Story

Based just outside of Annapolis MD, I have been flying UAVs, or "drones" as a hobby since the original Parrot AR Drone was released in 2010 and working with digital photography since their inception in the early 90’s!

A lot has changed since then, especially in the world of UAVs. Drones are safer and way more advanced and capable of capturing cinema quality video and amazing still shots. With the tremendous growth in popularity, the drone industry has also recently become much more regulated by the FAA ensuring that drone professionals operate in a manner that protects other aircraft in the sky and the people below.

My name is Scott M. Rhodes and I am a FAA Part 107 Licensed UAV pilot. Basically that means that as per the FAA, I can be hired to use a drone for filming, photography, land surveying and more. My goal here is to find as many great followers as I can that are not afraid to let me know what they think of my work and are capable of giving constructive guidance on improving it.

I also have the equipment to print stunning prints up to 13x19 on my own, no outside sourcing needed. If you see a particular still on this site that you would like to have for all your own, let me know and we can work out the details. I am also not against, with my permission of course, the use of my videos being used as “stock footage”. Just remember, the work here is all mine and protected by all copyright laws, so please ask me first!
