An Australian mathematician has successfully deciphered the enigmatic code of a 3,700-year-old Babylonian clay tablet.

They call it the Plimpton 322 tablet: researchers from UNSW Sydney discovered it’s actually the world’s oldest trigonometric table, created by the Babylonians over 3,700 years ago—about a millennium before the Greeks even started on trigonometry! This little clay tablet, written in a base-60 system (like the one used for time), contains a list of Pythagorean triples and a novel trigonometric approach based on ratios instead of angles and circles.
The Babylonians likely used this system to help with architectural projects like building temples, canals, or even ziggurats. According to the researchers, this ancient method might even be more accurate than modern trigonometry for certain calculations.
It’s pretty mind-blowing to think ancient scribes were doing complex math way before anyone realized!

This particular spiral isn’t an idle curiosity nor just an interesting pattern—It is in fact a map of the harmonic sequence.

This is how music works - actually how everything works.

It’s a visual depiction of musical intervals and their relationships, in the context of a harmonic or tuning system. At the core of the diagram is the fundamental note (C), with frequencies doubling for each octave.

Each interval is also associated with specific mathematical ratio, first calculated by Pythagoras.He discovered that two notes that made an interval always had a ratio of 2 to 1. The perfect fifth’s ratio is 3 to 2, and the perfect fourth is 4 to 3.

Pythagoras combined these intervals and then created other notes to make up the major scale. With his mathematical calculation, the theory of music had been born.

All frequency whether its sound, light, planetary motion, etc. can be related to these cycles. The same spiral pattern appears everywhere in nature, our DNA, plants, galaxies, weather patterns… so does in music.

Spiral is repetition, but with accumulated experience, it embodies fundamental processes of creation and growth.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a warning on Thursday about potential disruptions in air travel surrounding the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8.

The celestial event, set to cast a path of totality across 13 states, is anticipated to impact air travel operations before, during, and after the eclipse, according to the aviation agency.

The FAA indicated that the eclipse’s effects on U.S. airspace are anticipated between approximately 2:30 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. ET. At this time, some 32 million people in North America are expected to witness the rare event, which is anticipated to be the most-watched solar eclipse in history.

The solar eclipse may disrupt GPS navigation systems.

The eclipse will travel across 13 states.
